Books - Cheap- Discounted- & Free- Great Ideas For Finding Books For Pennies!

1. Keep a watchful eye at the local yard sales, auctions, flee markets, and library sales. You can find books for .05 - .25 cents each, or in some cases, you can purchase a whole box of books for a few dollars. I love to go to auctions in the summer, and many times I have seen the auctioneer pay someone a dollar if they would agree to take the box of books home with them :)

Here's where this can get really exciting for you! If you find nice books in good condition (for a very good price), pick them up - even if you don't find the book interesting. Then, take the books to your local book shop & re-sell the books there. Most local book shops (not the large big box stores) will pay you 25-50% of the cover price. You will need to check around to see what kinds of deals your local shops offer, as well as, what types of books that they are looking for. Sometimes they offer a cash payment, while other times they might offer you a store credit.

So lets say that you purchased a book for .25 with a cover price of $25, you could get as much as $6.25 - $12.50 in cash or credit! This is a great way to purchase new books for pennies!

2. If you already know what kind of topic that you're looking for, you have the ability to do lots of research about it - before you buy! Simply log on to an online book store such as Amazon.com and do a search for books in your topic area. Amazon.com is especially helpful to use, because they allow you to "look inside" (or thumb through the book as I like to say) before you purchase it. I also like to read what others who already own the book have to say about it. After you've done the research & you have a nice book list of books that you'd like to look over, go to your library's online system to reserve the book. I love using this service, as all I have to do is, log onto the website, find the books that I'm interested in, put them on hold, then I get a phone call when the books are ready to pick up! This is a great way to save time & money!

3. Now lets look at the above scenario from the other side of the coin. Lets say that you love spending time at the local library, and you've found a title that you just have to add to your collection. Simply log on the internet right from the library, go to one of the online wholesale book distributors such as Bookcloseouts.com & order your new book.
Then, after you've finished reading them, perhaps you might want to take them to your book dealer & make a nice little profit :)

4. Find out who does the book reviews in your newspaper (or check out the larger ones), they do so many reviews & therefore have lots of books to find homes for! They get the books free in exchange for a review, so if you really love books, perhaps you might look into becoming a book reviewer ;)

5. If you like romance novels, most libraries will allow trade ins. Just bring in the books you've already read, and trade them in for books found in the trade in section.

6. Check out the dollar stores - I uncovered several beautifully illustrated, hard cover, pop up books for $1 each!

The Body Ecology Diet: Recovering Your Health and Rebuilding Your Immunity (Paperback) - 9th Edition SAVE $5!! See below
What leading experts are saying about the Body Ecology Diet: "No one has ever put together all that we need to know about recovering and enhancing immunity - until now. I am making it a must reading for all my patients with candidiasis, immune disorders and food allergies."

Customer Review: Fantastic principles, down-to-earth tips

This is a must read for people who are really serious about healing naturally. Donna Gates has developed an outstanding technique in this book which has won the praise of many naturopathic experts today. You will love this book.

Customer Review: the newest edition of the healing system that saved my life!

When I was given this book for the first time, about 8 years ago when my health was at an all-time low that had been slowly declining for years. I was under 30 and had a list of chronic ailments longer than any senior citizen I knew; terrible heartburn every day all the time, gas, bloating, painful bowel movements (terribly painful), chronic vaginitis, chronic acute asthma so bad I was on 3 inhalers, pills, steroids AND I was still in the ER about once per month, weight gain, fatigue, major irritability and mood swings, depression, horrible lower back issues that always coincided with asthma flare ups (which of course, MDs told me were unrelated!), allergies to everything...I was a mess but it crept up so slowly over time I didn't even "get" how ridiculous it was. It seemed that everyone around me had similar issues and complaints (except maybe for the asthma) so I accepted it like the sleepwalking masses. I'd started to wake up and tried things like the Zone and Blood type diets. They were ok and I'd see some improvements but not anywhere near enough, no matter how disciplined I was. But when I went to see a chiropractor ( a really good one) who also practiced other wonderful forms of holistic healing, she handed me an older edition of this book and said that ALL of my issues were related to one underlying cause; Candidiasis.

I'd never heard of it but I was thrilled to see her react so matter of factly to my list of ailments and to be so confident about healing them, naturally. She said to take it home, read it, don't freak out if it seems overwhelming (which it did at first), then put it down and forget about it for a few days (letting the information filter into the subconscious) and then pick it up and reread it again. The second time I read it, everything clicked. It didn't seem intimidating and she and I even worked together to sort of mold it to my personal needs. We added the use of some wonderful supplements since I was so toxic; Paragone and Parazyme by Renew Life, and daily mega-doses of Metagenics probiotics (and later on, Dr. Ohhira's).

Luckily, the principles of the "diet" (which became a lifestyle for me) all invovled things I had experiment with before; acid/alkaline, yin/yang, blood type (taken with a grain of salt since it doesn't all work on my body), food combining...all things I had some knowledge of and that tend to overlap, really. A truly alkaline meal is usually properly food combined as it is (unless you're eating only protein, which is unbalanced), for example. So even though it was right around Christmas and my chiro said to wait until after, I was ready to heal! I jumped in, figured out a handful of recipes and easy meals on the plan and never looked back.

The first week was tough; I felt like I had the flu (sneexing, achey, tired, sore throat), but that's just a reaction to the toxic die off so I pushed on, knowing it was actually a good sign. Cleansing isn't always uncomfortable, but for someone as toxic as I was, I got off easy. Within 2 weeks, I felt better than I could remember and that was the tip of the iceberg. After a few months, I was a new woman; happy, energetic, excited, confident. After 6 months my entire life changed, on every level, in the most positive ways. Becoming truly healthy, in a way I never even knew was possible, changed my emotional and spiritual state as well. And I felt empowered because now I had the knowledge of how to allow my beautiful body to heal herself, which she had been trying to do all along.

BED is all about giving your body exactly what it needs and then getting the hell out of its way. ALL of my issues were gone after 6 months of doing it strictly. I hadn't been that healthy or radiant in my entire life. I found that I could go out and treat myself to something here and there without any ill effect, but I honestly didn't crave it much after the excess beasties were gone. A healthy body doesn't crave crap. And I then spent the next few years living on a modofied version; I LIKED the food! Millet with fresh carrots, ginger and dill....YUM! Broiled salmon with fresh spinach sauteed in coconut oil, garlic and fresh herbs...YUM! Quinoa flakes with stevia, cinnamon and nutmeg...YUM! Homemade ginger ale sweetened with stevia...awesome. You just find what you like, play with it, create about 10 dishes that are quick, easy and on the plan and you're set.

Yes, it takes some planning, shopping and prep but skipping Starbuck's and fast food actually frees up a lot of time and money. And after the initial cleansing phase, you'll have more energy than you'll know what to do with and making some veggies or salads won't seem like a hardship. I used to coach people through this process when I went to work for that wonderful chiropractor. It's a challenge and a learning experience, but the return is the gift of REAL LIFE! Radiance, vitality, energy, clarity, joy, beauty. Oh yeah, and I lost 40 pounds I'd wished I could lose all my life, and it wasn't even my focus anymore! It was a nice side effect.

So please, if you want some honest to G-d positive change in your life, true natural healing and to be empowered to control your own health and well being without drugs, find this book, anyway you can. (BTW, the cultured veggies are actually yummy and can be bought fresh at Whole Foods, the meals are really wonderful and satisfying and the rewards are priceless.)

Nothing short of life changing...but the question is, are you ready? Are you ready to put yourself and your well being first?

Magic

Magic
Magic, Bruce Springsteen's new studio recording and his first with the E Street Band in five years, is set for release by Columbia records on October 2, 2007. Produced and mixed by Brendan O'Brien, the album features eleven new Springsteen songs and was recorded at southern tracks recording studio in Atlanta, Ga.

Customer Review: Not the old Springsteen "magic"

I have been a Bruce Springsteen fan for more than 20 years and own most of his music. I saw him in 1985 during the Born in the USA tour and consider that show to be the best live concert I've ever attended.

I pre-ordered Magic based on comments by Springsteen's manager that this album echoed the Boss's work of the 1970's. Having listened through the album several times, I do not agree with that assessment. I agree with many others that some of the lyrics are hard to understand. For a person like Springsteen who has something to say about life in our times, I think the words matter. Many of the songs aim for the good-time feel of some of Springsteen's earlier work with the obligatory Clarence Clemon's solos and fine keyboard work by Roy Bittan, but they don't have much to say.

The highlights for me are the buoyant "Livin' in the Future" and the wry cover song "Magic," both subtle damnations of the policies of the "Current Occupant." I admire Springsteen for putting his reputation and career on the line to say what needs to be said in this day and age of people who will crucify you for speaking against those currently in power. But he should have made sure the final mix of the songs put those words out front.

I wanted to like this album. Despite repeated listens, I can't get very excited about it as a whole, although I do really like a couple of the songs.

Customer Review: Magic

Bruce Springsteen & The E. Street Band-Magic *****

When you get right down to it, the bare basic rock n' roll, strip all the country leanings, the ol' dixie influence of albums past, the self-indulgent pop that went against everything you set out to do, and you have Magic, Springsteens most honest and true to form albums in years. Magic might be the very best album Springsteen ever released, rivaling that of even U.S.A., Darkness On The Edge Of Town, and even the legendary Born To Run. While it might not be as theme concious as those albums it does do something remarkable. Magic is a career spanning album, it has something from all that fasits of his career. Lour Arena rockers, Politicaly charged anthems, country hinged melodys, Bob Dylan meets Jack Kerouack lyrics, and a backing of one of Americas greatest rock bands, The E. Street Band.

Opening with one of their all time greatest songs, 'Radio Nowhere' comes across as a plea by way of a neutron bomb. Homming some of his best lyrics and some of the E. Street Bands best grooves. 'You'll Be Coming Down' is what they wish they would have accomplished with The Rising.'Livin' In The Future' would have fit perfectly with The River, and gives vision to what everyone wishes they could say sometimes, "We're living in the future, and none of this has happened yet." 'Girls In Their Summer Clothes' is one of the best songs the band has ever recorded reminding us of early Springsteen. 'Last To Die' is easily the best anti-war-in-Iraq song to ever come along. While the 'Long Walk Home' may just be the best to come along in the last ten years from anyone, one that truly has to be heard to fully appreciate.

Magic is the album we have all been waiting for, one that we almost got with The Rising, but just came up short. Magic is easily the best Springsteen album since U.S.A., and maybe of their entire career.

Customer Review: Unreliable long term WD320GB

This was easy to setup and use. It comes with a 1yr warrenty and flat out died just after the warrenty expired... The company (WD) was extremely unhelpfull and insisted the product was outside of warrenty and the only way to recover my data is to pay a lot of money to an external data recovery center. You want your data safe, and this HD is NOT safe or secure. I just bought a replacement from Seagate, and while I can't say anything about how long it will work for, they are known to be reliable and that is what you want with a HD. DO NOT BUY WESTERN DIGITAL if you value your files...

Try this instead:

Seagate ST303204FPA1E3-RK FreeAgent Pro 320 GB USB/eSATA/FireWire400 External Hard Drive

Customer Review: Great Addition To My Set Up

I purchased this xmas night (tuesday) and received it thursday morning! I have an apple computer as my main workstation and was running out of storage space quick since i recently got into video editing with Final Cut Studio 2. I got this one since it has USB, FW400, and FW800, the 2 latter which stream audio and video extremely quickly (USB 2.0 sends data in packets so HD video would stutter on playback in the editor, FireWire sends data as streams).

The Drive is Very quiet, dosnt make a peep, even when reading or writing, and there is no annoying fan noise. The sleek aluminum case never gets hot and it matches perfectly to my sleek apple laptop.

Even though it is not as portable as some other drives are marketed to be, it is still very easy to transport with WD's simple button interface. Hit the center button and the drive will eject and turn itself off! All you have to do is unplug and toss in your bag or w/e.

Must have for anyone that has a lot of music, pictures, or videos.

One thing you should all know if you didnt all ready, the reason why computers seem to get slow over time is because as a HD gets full, the seek time increases for info, getting all the large files and the bulk of your collection on an external leaves the main HD fairly clean for faster system performance.

Customer Review: Great product - more for toddlers than infants

I purchased this product as a gift for my 8 month old son. I think over time he will really grow to love this toy but right now its too advanced for him. He is very interested in books so I thought that this would be great for him at this stage but its just not interesting him yet. I'll pull it out of the box again in a couple months to try again.

Customer Review: Sturdy books!

When we first opened the package and saw that the pages of the book that came with the leapfrog system was made of 'paper', we were quite concerned. Our children are both one year old and using all the muscle they have.....however, they have not yet been able to tear any pages or permanently damage the book in any way (yet). We're quite happy with the purchase.

Planet Earth - The Complete BBC Series [Blu-ray]

Planet Earth - The Complete BBC Series [Blu-ray]
With an unprecedented production budget of $25 million, and from the makers of Blue Planet: Seas of Life, comes the epic story of life on Earth. Five years in production, over 2,000 days in the field, using 40 cameramen filming across 200 locations, shot entirely in high definition, this is the ultimate portrait of our planet. A stunning television experience that captures rare action, impossible locations and intimate moments with our planet's best-loved, wildest and most elusive creatures. From the highest mountains to the deepest rivers, this blockbuster series takes you on an unforgettable journey through the daily struggle for survival in Earth's most extreme habitats. Planet Earth takes you to places you have never seen before, to experience sights and sounds you may never experience anywhere else.

Customer Review: Planet Earth - Best Nature Series Ever

Planet Earth, the series, is without doubt, the finest nature film ever made. All of their shots are breath-taking, with some appearing to be almost impossible to make. How they were able to capture so much wild-life, and rare wild-life at that, on film is both a wonder and a testament to the dedication the producers and film makers brought to the project.

And if you own a Blue Ray Disc Player, this is one film (there are four discs) that is simply a must for your collection. In fact, such is the realism and dynamic impact, I mounted my digital camera on a stand and took still frame shots of some of the images directly off my new 52" LCD TV screen. At 1080p, I've never seen a nature film that comes anywhere close to matching the grandeur and beauty that this series offers. The photography is so good, one might mistake it for an art film.

This is a must-have.

Customer Review: Planet Earth

This is a wonderful series with spectacular scenery and sound. I highly recommend it.

Each manual is written and photographed from "hands-on" experience gained by a complete teardown and rebuild of the vehicle. The first Haynes manual was written this way 40 years ago, and all the manuals continue to be produced this way, making Haynes the world leader in automotive repair information.

Customer Review: BMW 1602 and 2002, 1959-77 (Haynes Manuals)

This book is very clear with great and detailed breakdowns. I recommend also getting the BMW '02 Restoration Guide (Restoration Guides) by R.M. Clarke so you get a very technical book that can help you take apart and reassemble an engine, and a book with great tips and guides!

Customer Review: Good value but no substitute for factory documentation

This book, as in all Haynes Manuals are a good value but be aware that it is lacking in some year to year specific information. It also costs much, much less than the factory docs too!
