The Best books download Articles on WineTrade Paperbacks - The Most Popular Books Sold Today
Trade paperbacks are, perhaps, among the most popular books sold today. Since they are often sold at a lower cost than hazrd cover books, they are often available at a wider variety of stores.
Many book collectors also acquire several trade paperbacks from the same author, and they have become widely sought after. But just what is a trade paperback?
A trade paperback book is characterized by its shape, which is much like that of a hardcover. This sets it apart from a mass market paperback, which is usually proportioned so that it is smaller in size, but thicker in height.
A trade paperback, or (TPB), is sometimes called to as a trade paper edition, and can refer to any book that is bound with a heavy paper cover that is generally cheaper to bind than a hardcover book.
This is still cheaper to bind than a mass market paperback, but this is to be expected since mass market paperbacks are usually produced and sold rather cheaply in a number of stores including supermarkets and some convenient stores.
Traditionally, trade paperbacks were printed as special editions of a book, and were promoted as such at the time of release. Many of these special editions are now collectable items, and some are very difficult to find.
More recently, however, trade paperbacks are replacing regular paperbacks once the hardcover edition has been released. This is especially the case with many literary titles. Generally, pocket-sized paperbacks are now used only for popular and genre fiction.
For writers who are being published for the first time, a trade paperback may be the sole format of the release of their first book. This can help writers because the cost of producing this edition is cheaper than it would be to release a hardcover edition from an unknown writer.
In the comic book genre, trade paperbacks are usually used to print several editions of a comic series, usually an important story line or the entire series itself.
Many trade paperbacks are now sold on the Internet, which is especially important for avid book collectors who are looking for that rare edition that is long out-of-print. Here, both companies and individuals can sell these popular products, and it gives those seeking a specific title or edition the opportunity to obtain more extensive buying information.
Though trade paperbacks are now produced more frequently than they once were, they haven't lost their novelty or popularity with fans and collectors alike. So, if you are looking for that book that is less expensive than a hardcover, but more expensive than a mass market paperback, a trade paperback may be the answer.

Toyota Land Cruiser, 1968-1982 (Haynes Manuals)
Land Cruiser Series FJ40 FJ43 FJ45 and FJ55 (68 - 82) Haynes offers the best coverage for cars trucks vans and SUVs in the market today. Each manual is written and photographed from "hands-on" experience gained by a complete teardown and rebuild of the vehicle. The first Haynes manual was written this way 40 years ago and all the manuals continue to be produced this way making Haynes the world leader in automotive repair information.
Customer Review: Helpful for your avrage, but could give more technical info.
I found the Hains to be helpful in the basic needs of a Toyota Land Cruiser FJ-40 owner, but if you are looking for a book that will give more indepth information, such as restoration jobs, I do not recomend this book. For example this books digrams and schematics are much to be desired and blurry at best.In addition, job descriptions are sometimes missing key steps. Check it for your self before you by it!!!
Customer Review: A must have for 40-Series Owners
I find that this book is often the the book that I want to go to first for information about servicing Land Cruisers. The Original Toyota manuals are more thorough but they are not organized in a fashion that I like as much as this book by Haynes. This book has a very good collection of wiring schematics for vehicles produced between 1968 and 1982. Torque specifications are liberally included throughout the book and I feel that most of the critical torque settings are included. The cutaway drawing on the cover is of a 1975ish vintage FJ40 and is very well executed. This book is much more thorough than the Haynes manual for the 60-series and 80-series Land Cruisers. Forexample the 60/80-series Haynes book basically says about the gearboxes that you should take them to a mechanic for servicing. This book covers servicing all parts of the drivetrain. The unfortunate things about this book are: 1. it covers only the F and 2F petrol engines and does not cover any of the diesel engines 2. it does not cover any of the pre-1968 Land Cruiser models: some of which are very interesting and most of which are very difficult to obtain good service documentation about. This book is well worth owning and I think that it is a better Service Manual than most of the other books about Land Cruisers of this vintage.

Eat This Not That: Thousands of Simple Food Swaps That Can Save You 10, 20, 30 Pounds-or More!
Eat what you want, when you want--and watch the pounds disappear!
Americans spend more than $400 billion a year eating out, and behind each burger, turkey sandwich, and ice cream sundae is a simple decision that could help you control your weight-and your life. The problem is, restaurant chains and food producers aren't interested in helping you make healthy choices. In fact, they invest $30 billion a year on advertising, much of it aimed at confusing eaters and disguising the fat and calorie counts of their products. All of that has changed with EAT THIS, NOT THAT!. This book puts the entire food industry under the spotlight, and arms you with the savvy tricks and insider information it takes to eat well no matter where you are. With EAT THIS, NOT THAT! you're the expert in every eating situation, from the frozen food aisle to your favorite fast food joint to your local sports bar. You control your food universe-and lose the pounds you want--because, unlike every other customer, you'll know the smart choices to make-instantly!
EAT THIS, NOT THAT! is jam-packed with secrets the restaurant industry doesn't want you to know. For example:
Burger King doesn't want you to know that a BK Big Fish. Sandwich and fries have a whopping 1000 calories-nearly half your daily caloric intake! (Fish is usually healthy, but not this kind. Find out why with this book.)
Pizza Hut doesn't want you to know that a standard pizza in Italy contains 500 to 800 calories, but the same meal at Pizza Hut can top 2,100 calories! (You'd need to ride a stationary bike for more than three hours to burn off this mistake. Instead, eat all the pizza you want by making smart choices. EAT THIS, NOT THAT! shows you how.)
Macaroni Grill doesn't want you to know that a single serving of their Grilled Teriyaki Salmon has more than three times your daily allowance of sodium! (Cut your risk of high blood pressure by making smart choices at the same restaurant. You'll find them inside.)
If only you knew the industry secrets, you could eat at any of your favorite restaurants-or chow down on everything from the company vending machine to your kids' Halloween buckets-and know that every decision you made was smart, healthy, and the best possible choice for you. For example, did you know:
At McDonald's, an Egg McMuffin. is actually a healthy choice, with just 300 calories. (The Hotcakes pack more than double that amount!)
At Krispy Kreme, all you need to do is order the Very Berry Chiller instead of the Mocha Dream Chiller, and you'll save 500 calories! (Do that once a week and you'll drop more than 7 pounds this year-without trying!)
At Chipotle, you can cut 570 calories out of your Chicken Burrito just by ordering it as a bowl (without the tortilla) and asking them to hold the rice. (Same great taste, but with 94 fewer carb grams!)
Choosing a cinnamon roll at Au Bon Pain over Cinnabon will save you 463 calories and 20 grams of fat!
In the freezer section of your local supermarket, a turkey pot pie from Swanson's has 610 fewer calories than a turkey pot pie from Pepperidge Farms.
In the produce aisle, you'll get twice the vitamin C-and nine times as much vitamin A-simply by picking red bell peppers over green ones. (Who said eating healthy was difficult?)
And that's why EAT THIS, NOT THAT! is going to change everything. It's time to level the playing field. We're all tired of sneaky calories adding to our waistlines, and having to starve ourselves or spend hours on the treadmill trying to burn off the damage. Now-for the first time-you're in charge. With this simple illustrated guide to thousands of foods--along with the nutrition secrets that lead to fast and permanent weight loss--you'll make the smartest choice every time!

This book is entertaining as well as an excellent guide when eating out to make wise choices in the calorie department!
Ratatouille
Ratatouille
One key point: if you can get over the natural gag reflex of seeing hundreds of rodents swarming over a restaurant kitchen, you will be free to enjoy the glory of Ratatouille, a delectable Pixar hit. Our hero is Remy, a French rat (voiced by Patton Oswalt) with a cultivated palate, who rises from his humble beginnings to become head chef at a Paris restaurant. How this happens is the stuff of Pixar magic, that ineffable blend of headlong comedy, seamless technology, and wonder (in the latter department, this movie's views of nighttime Paris are on a par with French cinema at its most lyrical). Director Brad Bird (The Incredibles) doesn't quite keep all his spinning plates in the air, but the gags are great and the animation amazingly expressive--Remy's shrugs and nods are nimbler than many flesh-and-blood actors can manage. Refreshingly, the movie's characters aren't celebrity-reliant, with the most recognizable voice coming from Peter O'Toole's snide food critic. (This fellow provides the film's sole sour note--an oddly pointed slap at critics, those craven souls who have done nothing but rave about Pixar's movies over the years.) Brad Bird's style is more quick-hit and less resonant than the approach of Pixar honcho John Lasseter, but it's hard to complain about a movie that cooks up such bountiful pleasure. --Robert Horton
Customer Review: A gustatory journey through Paris
Ratatouille, from Pixar and Brad Bird (The Incredibles (Two-Disc Collector's Edition), The Iron Giant (Special Edition)), is a rat's-eye view of the gastronomic delights of fine cuisine (the name itself is a pun on the classic French roast vegetable dish ratatouille). Remy is a young rat who discovers that he has a heightened sense of taste and smell, and becomes inspired by the late television chef Auguste Gusteau (Brad Garrett), whose motto "anyone can cook" now extends to rats, too. Remy begins to experiment with combining classic combinations of flavor and texture, herbs, and other ingredients, until his clan is forced to flee their country safehouse.
During the traumatic escape, Remy is separated from his family. The ghost of Chef Gusteau appears to Remy when he is discouraged, inspiring him to cook at Gusteau's formerly-five star restaurant. The acid restaurant critic Anton Ego (Peter O'Toole) made it his personal mission to write a scathing review of Gusteau's that stripped it of one of its Michelin stars, consigning it to the tourist trade. Now, the restaurant is under the iron fist of the shady, domineering Head Chef Skinner (Ian Holm). Remy befriends the bumbling, couldn't-boil-water-if-his-life-depended-on-it Alfredo Linguini, whom Skinner grudgingly adopted as the new garbage boy, and Remy and Linguini team up to create culinary delights that astound the normally staid French restaurant critics. Remy controls Linguini by hiding under his chef's toque and tugging on two strands of hair (the scenes of Remy perfecting his technique with a blindfolded Linguini wielding dangerous tools and messy ingredients are priceless). Toss in a handful of intrigue, kitchen highjinks, father-son bonding, a dash of romance with the formidable chef Colette, and plenty of culinary delights, and you have Ratatouille.
The 3D animation is photorealistic, and 360 shots of nighttime Paris entrance. Small touches really capture the Bohemian feel of the Montmartre district, and the soundtrack features (brief) snippets of La Marseillaise, light and airy French themes, and French-language vocals by Camille (the standalone soundtrack Ratatouille is available for purchase). As with The Incredibles, there's lots to keep kids engaged (although the scene with the window full of dead rats might be traumatic for very young kids), and a whole other layer of adult humor bubbling under the surface, so mom and dad will be able to enjoy Ratatouille with gusto.
Customer Review: Good But Deep
Take a rat, add lots of wild and dangerous chase scenes, add a few recipes, finish off with a message that may be too deep for children and you might wind up with this film. This film is somewhere in the middle of Pixar's output. It is not the best but not the worst.
Our rat is unusual. He does not like the standard rat diet of garbage. He has a refined palette which his family exploits to check for poison. But he is unhappy. A violent episode lands him in Paris where he finds the restaurant of his chef hero. Here he has adventures with avoiding the staff and trying to cook. Add two villains (yes, two), the restaurant's current owner and a food critic and our rat's life gets very complicated.
This is a long film with much of it taken up by chase scenes. The cooking scenes are fun and clever. But in the middle we have the lone rat who does not fit in with other rats or with people as he keeps trying to be what he is not in order to please others. It is only in the end when he finds a way to be true to himself that things begin to go well. Great message but a little out there for the kids. The understood the message in Cars and The Incredibles but they didn't quite get this one as it a more adult problem. Still, it has plenty of the tings kids like while being intelligent enough for adults. Check it out.

phone books For Your Reading PleasureBooks - The Best Gift to Send to Whom You Love
If you are not sure what type of gift to give to a young adult, try giving a young adult book. Books make wonderful gift ideas. You can purchase young adult books at any major retail bookstore. The Internet is a wonderful resource for saving money if you know where to look, and books are one of the easiest items to save on, since you never have to worry about fit or color or style. There are many sources for cheap books online, and they are especially valuable for purchasing young adult books.
Young adults outgrow reading levels and interests so quickly that it seems a shame to pay full price for books that will most likely be read once and then discarded. By locating cheap books online through new and used booksellers, you can minimize the expense of keeping up with a young adult's changing interests and provide a wide and ever-changing variety of reading material to keep your teen's interests engaged.
Young adult books are generally written for audiences between the ages of 12 and 18, and deal with themes and topics that are especially relevant to teens. They are usually short to medium length chapter books addressing things like coming of age, dating, friendship, and fitting in, and can provide a means of understanding their own experiences as well as entertainment to the teen reader.
Because young adult books are read at specific ages and then outgrown, used young adult books are abundant. Few people keep young adult books once their children have reached adulthood, and the Internet provides an easy forum for buying and selling used books. From free book swapping sites to online retailers, there are many outlets that offer cheap books online, especially if you're looking for young adult books.
Some popular sources for cheap books online are Amazon.com, Half.com and EBay. At all three, you can find used young adult books at a fraction of retail costs. If you prefer new books, don't worry. Discount retailers like Overstock.com and the online outlets of major booksellers like Barnes and Noble offer new books at a discount from list prices. Be sure to consider shipping costs when looking for cheap books online, because sometimes what appears to be the best price is actually more expensive after shipping costs. Major online retailers frequently offer free shipping for larger orders, so be sure to be aware of store policies. Sometimes buying more can cost less!

Customer Review: As advertised
I have tried to extend my storage capacity by buying a mobo with IDE and SATA RAID. This was an ok solution and I had 6 HDDs working for a total of 1.3TBs (200GBX5+320GB), my PC was cluttered with cables and 2 HDDs failed in the first 6 months.
MyBook is the better solution since u dont need to strain ur PC, plus its portable and even goes to standby after few minutes of unuse.
Its also a scalable solution , I have gotten 2X 1TB and I can pick up a new one whenever i run out of space. It dosnt take much space on my desktop and looks cool.
Customer Review: Quiet and Fast but bundled software is 30 Day trial only
I bought one of these a month ago at Costco for about $200 after a coupon. I bought it on the spot with little to no research trusting that if I didn't like it, I could return it. So far that hasn't been necessary since the drive has met and exceeded my expectations after a few gremlins plagued the initial installation.
This is the 3rd WD HDD I've purchased. Historically, I've had problems with faulty WD products, particularly the 160GB portal HDD which I had to return twice because of bad sectors. I did not feel confident that this product would be any less troublesome and it seemed I was correct during installation. It refused to recognize the Desktop it was attached to, restarting everything always turned up different results. Sometimes I could get the devices to see each other only for them to lose the connection a few minutes later, other times I had no luck whatsoever. Finally, after approximately 20 attempts, the HD started working. I was about to return the device right before my last try. I tried this on several PCs with both USB and Firewire connectors and the same results so I'm convinced the HDD was at fault.
The drive is very quiet, more so than my internal HDD. I have it connected via Firewire, which is the fastest conventional external connection.
READ TEST:
* 5000 files (300 MB total) FireWire was 33% faster than USB 2.0
* 160 files (650MB total) FireWire was 70% faster than USB 2.0
WRITE TEST:
* 5000 files (300 MB total) FireWire was 16% faster than USB 2.0
* 160 files (650MB total) FireWire was 48% faster than USB 2.0
There is an eSATA connection available, but I don't have the connector on my PC. It would provide even faster transfer speeds.
The Memeo backup software bundled with the device is 30-Day trial only and not worth purchasing IMO. Although surprising that the software was trial based, I have other solutions and primarily use the device not to duplicate files but to store files apart from my PCs.
Aesthetically, it's neat and attractive with a matte black on metal finish. It has a white LED indicator light bar on the front which provides an interesting light show to externally indicate its current status. Nice functional little detail but I'm not always clear on what each animation means.

phone books For Your Reading PleasureBooks - The Best Gift to Send to Whom You Love

Another Great borders book store ArticleStraight From the Publisher--Niche Marketing of Books
Whether you self-publish your book or it is published by a traditional publishing house, guess who's going to have to promote it? You guessed right. The answer is YOU! "But...but," you say, "if my book is put out by a major publisher, won't they promote it?" The answer is NO, unless you are a celebrity by virtue of a theatrical or political career; or if you are a previously best-selling author, or if you are in the spotlight of the national news for an extended time. You see, publishers promote the books they think have a good chance of being blockbusters?best-sellers. And they know that celebrities sell books. All the rest of their books, including yours, they essentially leave to sink or swim by themselves.
So the point is, whether you self-publish or have your book published by a small press or a major publisher, YOU will have to promote it.
Now there are many, many ways of promoting books, but I can tell you this: for most authors, the most effective, least costly, least time-consuming, least annoying method of promoting your book is through niche marketing.
So if you have a book in print or soon to be in print, start compiling lists. Make lists of everyone you know or have met personally, who might be interested in your book. Network like crazy! The most powerful means of selling anything is through personal contact.
Next make lists of persons, from prominent figures down to local officials, who have something to do with the subject of your book. Next make lists of every non-profit organization, corporation, school and government agency that could have an interest in the subject of your book.
Use your creativity. Think of all the angles of why someone or some group might be interested in your book.
Here is an example. One of my authors wrote a book about a Finnish-American man who was born in Helsinki and lived in the U.S. for almost forty years. In the 50's he became a national champion in men's ice skating. Years later, he was instrumental in creating Olympic-quality athletic facilities for disadvantaged kids in his area, and still later, as the head of a local union, he helped improve dangerous working conditions in factories in the Midwest. In short, he was a good guy?a hero.
Now who might be interested in this book? First thought was the labor unions in which he was involved. The author created an attractive promotional flyer and he sent it to the heads of all the unions in the region, emphasizing that many of the benefits they now enjoy are due to the efforts of this man. The unions responded with some substantial orders for books. Then the author contacted ice skating associations and clubs. Then, with a bit of research, groups that used the athletic facilities this man helped create were contacted. After that came the Finnish-American ethnic organizations throughout the U.S.
Then the author hit upon a small gold mine. He first wrote to the mayor of the town, in Finland, where the book?s hero was born; then to the Finnish equivalent of its Chamber of Commerce; then to some genealogical societies in Finland, who like to keep track of where native sons and daughters have moved and what has happened to them. The orders from Finland eventually overtook domestic sales, even though the book is available only in English.
In a nutshell, after two years, the author made about six times the amount he invested in the 1st and 2nd printings, and at last count had sold some 12,000 books.
To all authors and aspiring authors: it can be done. It's called niche marketing, and what it takes more than anything else is?imagination!

A Featured book distributor ArticleElectronic Textbooks ? Efficient Replacements for Traditional College Textbooks
In the last few years, college campus bookstores have continuously put students under pressure, selling curricular textbooks at prices that exceed the financial possibilities of the average student, already burdened by high tuition costs and additional expenses for one?s education. According to recent studies, a required new course textbook can cost between $100 and $200 in the campus bookstore, students rarely finding better offers in other specialized offline resources. Forced to spend a small fortune in order to gather a minimum number of curricular textbooks, students nationwide suffer pronounced gaps in their budgets during each school year. Although they clearly realize that they are being ripped off, most students continue to spend exaggerated sums of money on new college textbooks available for purchase in college campus bookstores; others look for cheaper alternatives in used bookstores or on the Internet, while some decide to borrow their needed textbooks from colleagues.
According to a recent study conducted by CALPIRG ? the California Public Interest Research Group in 59 superior educational facilities across the country, college textbook prices have increased at four times the rate of inflation over the last few years. As very few parties are currently trying to find efficient solutions to the problem, the phenomenon continues to grow and is expected to become even more acute in the near future. Considering the fact that the average cost of college textbooks is estimated at $900 a year per student, study materials substantially add to the already high cost of a higher education.
The high costs of today?s college textbooks represent a problem with many different aspects. The primary reason why college textbook prices have rocketed over the last few years is poor competition on the market. As long as college bookstores continue to hold the monopoly over the specialized market, the costs of new college textbooks are expected to grow further. Although at present there are many competitive resources that offer both new and used textbooks for more affordable prices than those established by campus bookstores, they currently cover a small segment of the market and don?t pose a serious threat to college campus bookstores.
The unaffordable prices of most curricular college textbooks are primarily the consequence of frequent and often unneeded updates and reviews, but also high production costs, according to textbook publishers. Thus, an effective solution to the problem would be to completely eliminate the costs of ink and paper by replacing traditional college textbooks with electronic study materials. In electronic format, the college textbooks of tomorrow will not only be substantially cheaper, but will also include interactive content, thus stimulating students? imagination and raising their interest for learning.
Digital college textbooks are expected to offer major educational advantages, as they will comprise many different tools into a single volume. Unlike traditional textbooks, such study materials will introduce videos, simulations and various interactive games which will help students better understand the topics discussed in class. Customer Review: excellent memories book
the book is so cute! it's orange and green - not pink and green like it looks in the picture. you can put tons of pictures in it, there are tons of pages for dates that are important... an excellent book to keep all of babies memories in. I bought a carters one for my first kid and then this one for the second. i love them both and they are very similar, but i loved this ones colors more.
Customer Review: Love it!
I love this baby book! It is everything I was looking for. Really nice quality and lots of space to write in facts and for pictures. The only issue I have is that in the picture it looks pink and when it arrived it is actually light green on the right side and the gingham on the spine is a peachy coral. Still it's really cute, but if the color is really important to you, be aware.

Anne of Green Gables
Anne of Green Gables
This gorgeous adaptation of Lucy Maud Montgomery's classic children's story is well worth watching with the whole family. Produced for Canadian television, it's one of those rare productions that actually sticks to the book and even enhances it through first-rate performances and an excellent script. Set on bucolic Prince Edward Island in the late 19th century, Anne of Green Gables is the story of Anne Shirley, an imaginative and headstrong orphan. When brother and sister Marilla and Mathew Cuthbert decide to adopt an orphan boy to help Matthew work the farm, they are astonished when Anne arrives at the train station by mistake. "What use is she to us?" grumbles the gruff Marilla. "We might be of some use to her," answers Matthew, who has taken an instant liking to the talkative Anne. As Anne grows up, her adventures are both hilarious and moving. It's a delight to watch as she forms a friendship with the beautiful Diana and her admirer--the dashing Gilbert Blythe--then dyes her hair green, cracks a slate over Gilbert's head when he calls her "Carrots," and finds a sympathetic teacher who encourages her to attend college.
Richard Farnsworth is perfect as the shy and gentle bachelor Matthew, who confides to Anne that he never went courting because "I would have had to say something." Colleen Dewhurst delivers a nuanced and powerful performance as Marilla, a seemingly cold-hearted spinster whose no-nonsense exterior conceals a warm heart. And as Anne, Megan Follows strikes the perfect note, maturing from freckle-faced orphan to elegant and poised young woman. --Elisabeth Keating
Customer Review: A film for teachers that don't want to teach...
Films are amazing because they can literally take any shape, any sound, any form, and any size. They are the chameleon of entertainment. As a viewer, you cannot jump into a film with expectations, because due to the circumstances listed above, one may never know the particular outcome. Films can arrive in forms of made-for-television releases, direct-to-DVD releases, or through mainstream venues. It is a magical moment beginning a film through the ending - there is a level of unknown as well as random emotions throughout. "Anne of Green Gables" was one of those surprise random moments for me where I didn't know what to expect, but went through a barrage of emotion before arriving to this conclusion. In film, it may be cliché to say "size does matter", but with exploding budgets and timelines over 120 minutes, size is becoming a hot commodity in Hollywood. "Anne of Green Gables" is one of those low budget, little screen book adaptations that literally takes every page and puts it in cinematic lights. Carrying both positive and negative attributes, "Anne of Green Gables" takes three hours of your life, puts it in a made-for-TV blender, blends, and forces you to drink the resulting concoction. How does it taste going down? Don't worry - that is what I am here for.
"Anne of Green Gables" begins with Anne's life in an orphanage, living with uncaring foster parents, all the way through her lavish life with her new parents, Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert. She goes through the struggles of being an independent woman living in a prim and proper world. Leading us as Anne is Megan Follows, a young girl with a television filled resume, who provides us with the shell of Anne, but not quite the full-body development. Follows is my first experience with Anne, and since there is little to judge, I must admit she was follow-able, but not quite developed. The words that she engulfed were charismatic, she defined the role, but when she walked, cried, or ran - she didn't seem to be that same Anne again. Follows felt like a stage actress trapped in an invisible cinema box. Either she wasn't allowed the explore all the elements, or she just didn't have to. This film was your typical made-for-TV movie that didn't need actors escaping their shells because they had picturesque views and longevity on their side. They were telling a story, not winning awards - and with this film it was obvious. Don't yell - I did like what Follows did, I just didn't love her performance. Perhaps a stack rankings of all the others that portrayed Anne would allow Fellows' performance to stand out, but watching this film alone - something just felt missing. Richard Farnsworth's Matthew was another abandoned character, with no emotion and void of life. Every time he opened his mouth, nothing of excitement protruded. Colleen Dewhurst was the cliché angry woman, unwilling to change, yet something about Anne eventually brings her to a new understanding of life. These two were the leading figures around Anne, and working together they provided a good story - but poorly developed characters. There was minimal emotion surrounding them as they went from scene to scene. For these actors, it was obviously a job; they allowed the movie to tell the story.
Having never read the story of Anne and her adventures at Green Gables, director Kevin Sullivan should be commended for bringing such a drab story to life. The adventures of the protagonist Anne includes minimal excitement, the cliché drunken friend, the death of a loved one, the adolescent blurts of English - all can be found in other films of this nature like "Little House on the Prairie" or any "After School Special", but Sullivan did bring some snippets of joy to this story. He made it long, which allowed us to sink into the environment, believe that it was forced, and yet one can find simple joys in the stagy-ness of it all. Sullivan's direction was impeccable; he took no risks, created nothing original, and played it by the book. He allowed the story to grow, but again, there wasn't much story to grow. Anne stays in one place, runs around everywhere, and grows an iconic challenge with a local boy who is equally as talented (and equally as drab). I am not a pre-teen girl, I am missing the "bosom" friend, and obviously this film wasn't targeted towards my demographic, but it should still entertain. Anyone who argues that they could sit through such lifeless characters must be first in line to the new Larry the Cable Guy film. While I am drawing random tangents, my point is the meat was missing from this adventure. The scenery was fantastic, the pacing was fluent, but our characters could not bring me to a second viewing. Where was the passion in this film? Why did Sullivan allow cardboard to grace his screen?
Overall, "Anne of Green Gables" was a lengthy film, with cardboard characters, but a plethora of beautiful scenes. There wasn't much music to talk about, outside of the same three chords played over and over again. Richard Farnsworth proved yet again that his name filled his resume, while Megan Follows played her part while keeping within her self-proclaimed box. As a reviewer of films, I want to see progression, development; strong single elements that make each film stand out from the cattle of the rest. With this film it felt safe, it was a family film that took no risks, it felt like a Styrofoam box on the ocean - you really should take it out, but you worry about getting wet and sea creatures. "Anne of Green Gables" was an 80s film without the pizzazz. If I had a daughter who wanted to watch this film, I could hope it would help her sleep. Coupled with the characters, the story is ironically bland, and even the director didn't push for risks. It was a film. I was happy when it was over, could never dream about watching it again, yet I can't fault it for anything dramatic. It wasn't the greatest made-for-TV film, but there is little to complain about.
It was sterile. It was cardboard. It was copper.

I bought this movie for my daughter and she has watched it many times, she loves the movie. She also had a movie party with her friends, they all came over to watch it, everyone enjoyed it.
Apple MacBook Pro MA895LL/A 15.4" Laptop (2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB RAM, 120 GB Hard Drive, DVD/CD SuperDrive)
Apple MacBook Pro MA895LL/A 15.4" Laptop (2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB RAM, 120 GB Hard Drive, DVD/CD SuperDrive)
Stylishly and intelligently designed for mobile professionals, Apple's MacBook Pro gets a serious speed bump with the new, powerful Intel chipset (dubbed Santa Rosa), which provides a faster Core 2 Duo processor, longer battery life, and native support for 802.11n wireless connectivity. This model (MA895LL/A) also includes a new mercury-free, power-efficient LED-backlit display measuring 15.4 inches and a state-of-the art NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT video card for more realistic graphics for animation and gaming. This MacBook Pro is powered by the new 2.2 GHz Core 2 Duo T7500 processor and 2 GB of 667 MHz DDR2 memory--the fastest portable computer memory currently on the market (June 2007). But some things haven't changed: the trademark stunning aluminum enclosure that's is just one-inch thin, built-in iSight video camera, and Apple's magnetically connected MagSafe power adapter, which safely disconnects when under strain.

This MacBook Pro measures just 1 inch thin and weighs 5.4 pounds. |
Other hardware features include a 120 GB hard drive, 8x SuperDrive for burning multiple disc formats, built-in 10/100/1000 BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet for high-speed networking, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR (Enhanced Data Rate), a FireWire 800 and a FireWire 400 port, an ExpressCard/34 expansion card slot for expansion solutions such as 3G wireless networking, and a DVI video output.
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
The Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 processor has a 2.2 GHz processor speed, super-fast 800 MHz front-side bus (FSB), and an enormous 4 MB of Smart Cache, an L2 cache that can be shared between the cores as needed. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)
The Intel Core 2 Duo's 128-bit SSE3 vector engine handles 128-bit computations in a single clock cycle, accelerating data manipulation by simultaneously applying a single instruction to multiple data. And its two execution cores are designed to share resources and conserve power, helping it to achieve higher levels of performance since it uses fewer watts

The new 15-inch MacBook Pro offers a new mercury-free, power-efficient LED-backlit display with an antiglare finish that's perfect for color-minded professionals. |
Display and GraphicsThe 15.4-inch widescreen TFT (non-glossy) display offers a native resolution of 1440 x 900 pixels and an antiglare widescreen display that's perfect for color-minded professionals. The new MacBook Pro display is backlit by light emitting diodes (LEDs), which gives it a lighter weight and more power efficiency than the cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFLs) which most notebooks employ. It's also better for the environment, thanks to its new mercury-free display.
Video and graphics are powered by the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT card, which is boosted by 128 MB of GDDR3 SDRAM. GDDR3 (Graphics Double Data Rate, version 3) is a graphics card-specific memory technology that's better able to deliver fluid frame rates for even the most advanced games and applications. The GeForce 8600M GT brings a new level of realism to the MacBook Pro with its 16-lane PCI Express architecture, 16x full screen anti-aliasing, 128-bit High Dynamic Range rendering, and a texture fill rate of up to 8.2 billion per second.
Hard Drive and Memory
The 120 GB Serial-ATA (SATA) hard drive (5400 RPM) provides more than enough space to store business-related documents and presentations, as well as offers space for a large digital audio and video library. This SATA hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to FireWire and USB 2.0. The 2 GB of PC5300 DDR2 RAM (two SO-DIMMs of 1 GB) have an industry-leading 667 MHz speed, and the RAM capacity can be increased to a whopping 4 GB.
Wireless Connectivity
The built-in 802.11n wireless networking provides up to five times the performance and twice the range of 802.11g, but it's also backward-compatible with 802.11a/b/g routers, enabling you to communicate with the a wide variety of Wi-Fi resources. It works seamlessly with the new AirPort Extreme with 802.11n. Use the built-in Bluetooth wireless technology to connect to your PDA or cell phone, synchronize addresses, or download pictures from your cell phone. You can also use a wireless headset for iChat audio chats and VoIP calls as well as quickly share files with a colleague.
Video Conferencing with Built-in iSight
Artfully placed in the display bezel is an iSight camera, which enables easy video conferencing as well as allows you to snap pictures of yourself and create video podcasts. Using the iChat AV application, video conferencing is integrated into your iChat buddy list, so initiating a video conference is a breeze. iChat also lets you hold audio chats with up to 10 people and provides high-quality audio compression and full-duplex sound so conversation can flow naturally. For video podcasting, you can record a short clip using the iSight camera, then use iWeb to create a video blog entry or post your GarageBand-recorded podcast.
Apple Innovations

The magnetically connected MagSafe power adapter breaks cleanly away, without damage to either the cord or the MacBook Pro, if you trip over the cord.. |
The MacBook Pro is the culmination of years of refining hardware and software design to an integrated art. One of Apple's most celebrated innovations is the MagSafe power adapter connector with offers a magnetic connection instead of a physical one. So, if you happen to trip over a power cord, you won't send MacBook Pro flying off a table or desk--the cord simply disconnects, without damage to either the cord or the system. As an added nicety, this means less wear on the connectors.

Using two-fingered scrolling, you can easily scroll around your documents or open contextual menus with one hand. |
The trackpad can tell if you've got one finger on the pedal, or two. With two, you can easily scroll around your documents or open contextual menus. When you need right-click functionality, simply open ÒKeyboard and MouseÓ in System Preferences and enable the secondary click preference.
The MacBook Pro has battery life that rivals most notebooks in its class. If you'd like to make that battery last even longer, Mac OS X has a few tricks up its sleeve. Go to System Preferences, click Energy Saver, and change battery optimization from Normal to Better Battery Life. Or tell MacBook Pro to reduce its screen brightness and give yourself a little more time untethered.
And with the included Apple Remote and Front Row software, you can show off your latest photos and access your iTunes music and playlists from across the room. You can also use it to watch downloaded movies and TV episodes as well as control playback of DVD movies. The Apple Remote features a minimalist six buttons--just press the Menu button to activate Front Row and begin to navigate through your media. Customer Review: MacBook Pro
The MacBook Pro is great, looks great and works well. The only thing is the new operating system wasn't loaded to the laptop but the disk was included. Other than that, everything is great. Love it.
Customer Review: MacBook Pro
I bought this computer one month ago and the price has dropped $305! I bought an Apple for its reputation as a reliable system. This one crashes regularly, especially when I attempt to use the help function. Also, it does not pick up wireless signals unless they are very, very strong. My six-year old Toshiba works better than this machine. Definitely not worth the premium paid.

SAD is the absolute worst. I bought the litebook for the few weeks before I'd be able to get medication for the depression, but the light therapy gave me such fantastic results that it's all I need. I use it for 30 minutes when I first wake up, and I'm more energetic, healthier, and happier.

Nintendo DS Lite Browser
Nintendo DS Lite Browser
The Nintendo DS Lite Browser was co-developed by Nintendo and Opera and provides web browsing on the Nintendo DS Lite. The Opera browser software is stored on the Nintendo DS Lite cartridge, a memory expansion you caninsert into the GBA slot. The browser uses both screens of the Nintendo DS Lite handheld. While the standard screen is displayed on the bottom, an expansion will be provided on the upper screen to provide a better browsing experience. Type your Web address on a keyboard display or using the DS stylus. A parent lock function is provided to disable the access to the internet for children.
Customer Review: Sooo slooow
I eagerly awaited the release of the Opera browser for the DS. My girlfriend tried to talk me out of buying it, but I had faith in Opera after using the top notch Wii browser. Now, I have buyer's remorse. Before I bought it, I had already come to terms with it's lack of Flash. After I started using it, though, I realized there were bigger problems. It takes minutes upon minutes to load anything. Loading a single Facebook page takes on average 2-3 minutes with images disabled. This application is basically useless to me. I could see it being of some use if you're stranded on a deserted island with only your DS, assuming the deserted island has wifi, and you have many hours of time to kill whilst awaiting your rescue.
I'm already eager for the next gen of the DS so that Opera can put out a real browser. Only buy this as an emergency browser, since everyday usage is pointless.
Customer Review: Worth the buy
The only reason I did not give the Nintendo browser 5 stars is because it doesnt play video or sound. As far as web browsing, it is beyond my expectations. I read through lots of negative comments about the browser but am very glad that i bought it. The split screens and keyboard make browsing the net very simple and easy. Text and pictures are very clear. Loading times vary. I have cable internet so it was quicker than I expected it would be.
The only problem I encountered was accessing my hotmail account through Windows Live. It doesn't work. Some said to set it to classic but I found that was impossible. You can access hotmail through the msn mobile page so the setup is simpler and I am still able to access hotmail. Hopefully that will help someone.
Overall, the Nintendo Browser is a good investment if you dont plan on buying the Iphone in the near future. For $40 there isnt much else out there that can give you what the Nintendo Browser offers.
Once
Once
Even those allergic to musicals may be won over by Once, a tender-hearted Irish romance with songs by Czech Republic-born Markéta Irglová and Frames frontman Glen Hansard. (The film's director, John Carney, actually used to play bass in the group.) The trick here is that Irglová and Hansard also play the leads; because their characters are shown busking, writing music, or rehearsing, the songs are smoothly integrated in the film. The overall acoustic mood won't surprise fans of the Frames--some tracks ("Say It to Me," "When Your Mind's Made Up") have even popped up on the band's albums, though the arrangements are more pared-down here, befitting the scruffy, street-musician setting. Being the lesser-known entity, Irglová feels like a revelation; she sounds a bit like a folkie Björk on "If You Want Me," and her song "The Hill" is downright heartbreaking. Irglová and Hansard had already made the 2006 album The Swell Seasontogether, so their collaboration here feels really organic--they sound particularly good together on the title track, for instance. Now that's the kind of magic you want from musicals. --Elisabeth Vincentelli
Customer Review: Once
Love it, love it, love it! The movie was great, the cd was great but seeing them live is even better! :)
Customer Review: I only need to say this "once"..........
I genuinely LOVE this soundtrack. Glen Hansard is incredibly talented. His style seems influenced by: (insert any great acoustic artist before him here). The song arrangement is also amazing. And Marketa Irglova's hauntingly soft voice is sweet and pure.

The next generation of e-books will open new educational perspectives, creating a new, innovative model for teaching. By corroborating affordability with great educational value, the electronic college textbooks of tomorrow will open many new horizons for students in superior educational facilities worldwide.

the book is so cute! it's orange and green - not pink and green like it looks in the picture. you can put tons of pictures in it, there are tons of pages for dates that are important... an excellent book to keep all of babies memories in.

Customer Review: Perfect
SAD is the absolute worst. I bought the litebook for the few weeks before I'd be able to get medication for the depression, but the light therapy gave me such fantastic results that it's all I need. I use it for 30 minutes when I first wake up, and I'm more energetic, healthier, and happier.
Customer Review: Really a life-saver in the winter
S.A.D. You know it, you feel it, you hate it every year. Well this year was different when we got this bad boy in December. Use it 30minutes in the morning and am extremely satisfied.

Customer Review: Used it to softmod my xbox
There are guides for connecting an xbox controller to the pc and using a usb stick to transfer files, but I couldn't get that to work. So, I ordered this, now that my xbox is (soft)modded, don't need it anymore, except maybe to mod other people's xbox's.
