E-books as Your Best Asset

Are you thinking of starting a business online? Are you not sure what type of product to sell or to promote? Well, I was just reading an amazing E-book that shared some very simple concepts that anyone can implement, and they start with having one thing, an E-book.

Information is constantly being distributed and passed around for free on the internet. You can read free internet articles on how to trade stocks, or how to improve your golf swing, but those articles don't always give you a step by step guide to learn all the tricks. People are now relying on information that will help guide them in doing a highly specialized trade, like trading stocks, repairing vintage automobiles, or losing weight. There are many paper books available that will teach you how to do these things, but much of the time, people are going to the internet to find solutions and find current information on specialized trades.

Let's look at some reasons why an E-book can be your greatest asset:

1. An E-book is digital, and can be kept online at your website, not at a warehouse.

2. It can only be downloaded from your website 24/7 and as it is totally secure, it cannot be passed around the internet as a free un-secure article.

3. You have to buy an E-book to read it. It can only be read after it is paid for.

4. Once you create an E-book, it is forever available.

5. You'll never run out of inventory, as there is no inventory.

6. After writing the E-book, your work is done, and you can sit back and let it make money for you. Of course, the more you keep it updated, and the more E-books you write, the more profit potential you have.

7. When you sell an E-book, the customer does not have to wait for it. It's delivered to them instantly, and they can conveniently store it on their computer or laptop, so it is available to them more easily.

8. Paper Books take about a year to get published and cost a lot of money in printing, postage and handling. E-books have no publishing cost, and can be delivered through the internet saving time and money on postage and handling.

9. You can use very simple and sophisticated internet marketing tools to drive traffic to your website for people to buy your E-books.

10. E-books can always be revised and kept updated as fast as you can create new content. This makes E-books more current than a normal paperback.

11. Your E-book can be bought forever. This gives you unlimited profit potential.

So, think about spending some extra time and compile a 30-100 page E-book, that is high quality, and gives the customer great value. The time you spend doing this can make you money forever. When we start thinking about moving our mindset from trading our time for money, to having our assets work for us, we start to shift from having to always work for our money, to letting our E-books work for us.

Subaru Legacy, 1990-1999: Includes Legacy Outback and Legacy Brighton (Haynes Manuals)

Subaru Legacy, 1990-1999: Includes Legacy Outback and Legacy Brighton (Haynes Manuals)
All Subaru Legacy models, including Legacy Outback and Legacy Brighton (90 - 98) Haynes offers the best coverage for cars, trucks, vans and SUVs in the market today. Each manual is written and photographed from "hands-on" experience gained by a complete teardown and rebuild of the vehicle. The first Haynes manual was written this way 40 years ago, and all the manuals continue to be produced this way, making Haynes the world leader in automotive repair information.

Customer Review: Beginner handbook

I have not done as much work as I might have liked, so I have opened the book relatively little. In what little I have used it, it has been more reassuring than helpful--for instance, the book confirmed that the rear hatch lifter supports come without the entire ball-joint assembly, and that there is little one can do about this. Not really helpful, but reassuring for someone who wonders what is going on.

I consider the book satisfactory for its purposes, and I am glad I own it.

Customer Review: Haynes manuals explain best!

In my opinion, short of an actual manufacturer's shop manual, you can't beat a Haynes book for completeness. And, given that they are written for the non-professional, in some ways they are far superior. Based on complete engine tear-down and rebuild, and covering standard repairs and maintainence, I never buy anything else.

If you are even reasonably handy, like to save money on basic (or even complex) repairs, this is the book for you.

LeapFrog Leapster® Educational Game: Scooby-Doo™ Spooky Snacks!

LeapFrog Leapster® Educational Game: Scooby-Doo™ Spooky Snacks!
Scooby-Doo Spooky Snacks is great learning fun with Scooby and the gang! Help Scooby-Doo and Shaggy fend off monsters -- feed snacks to the right monster while learning addition, subtraction and counting in multiples. It's a race against time to keep themonsters fed andkeep them from chasing you!

Customer Review: Scobby Doo fun

This game is fun for my child(age 4) but its not as educational as I would have liked. He played it some but he likes several of the other leapster games better.(cars, dora, letterpillar) The game is ok but if your kids not a big scobby fan I would get several of the other games first.

Customer Review: scooby Doo leapster

This game is too simple in nature. There are three levels which indicate that the addition question just gets slightly harder. There is only one very simple repetative main game, throwing food at the monster with the correct answer and a simple round of eating snacks before the timer runs out. Other Leapster games are more elaborate. The kids are not interested in this one because there isn't much to it. When you buy online it is hard to read the box and deduce the game details. I got it on sale for about half price, at least.

The Sound of Music (Two-Disc 40th Anniversary Special Edition)

The Sound of Music (Two-Disc 40th Anniversary Special Edition)
When Julie Andrews sang "The hills are alive with the sound of music" from an Austrian mountaintop in 1965, the most beloved movie musical was born. To be sure, the adaptation of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II's Broadway hit has never been as universally acclaimed as, say, Singin' in the Rain. Critics argue that the songs are saccharine (even the songwriters regretted the line "To sing through the night like a lark who is learning to pray") and that the characters and plot lack the complexity that could make them more interesting. It's not hard to know whom to root for when your choice is between cute kids and Nazis.

Read our interview with
Charmian Carr, who played
Liesl von Trapp in The
Sound of Music
.
It doesn't matter. Audiences fell in love with the struggling novice Maria (Andrews), the dashing Captain von Trapp (Christopher Plummer), and, yes, the cute kids, all based on a real-life World War II Austrian family. Such songs as "My Favorite Things," "Do Re Mi," "Climb Every Mountain," and the title tune became part of the 20th century Zeitgeist. In addition, The Sound of Music officially became a cult hit when audiences in London began giving it the Rocky Horror Picture Show treatment, attending showings dressed as their favorite characters and delivering choreographed comments and gestures along with the movie. So why resist, especially when the 40th Anniversary Edition is the best DVD yet.

The DVDs
As if the direct involvement of Julie Andrews weren't enough, the 40th Anniversary Edition of The Sound of Music is a must-have for fans because of the fond sense of nostalgia that will touch all but the worst cynic's heart. Andrews introduces both discs and contributes a commentary track on the film. It's a joy to hear her speak about the film (for example, she explains how she solved her dislike for the lyrics of "I Have Confidence"), and also heard are remarks by Christopher Plummer (who at one point refers to his being 48, which if true would mean his comments were made in about 1975), Charmian Carr (Liesl), choreographer Dee Dee Wood, and Johannes Von Trapp (the real-life Maria Von Trapp's youngest son, who admits that his father did have a whistle but claims that he was not as stern as portrayed in the film). Even with all those people involved, there are still significant gaps of silence, however. Retained from the previous two-disc editions is the commentary track by director Robert Wise, which during the musical numbers becomes an isolated score with no vocals. Also new are sing-along subtitles in English, Spanish, and French, which allow you to have your own sing-along at home. In addition, the film's remastering shows off a truer and much warmer sense of color.

On the second disc, Andrews participates in a new 63-minute documentary "My Favorite Things: Julie Andrews Remembers." But it's really a general making-of documentary with contributions from a number of principals, including director Robert Wise, who died in mid-2005 (not surprisingly, some stories are repeated from the commentary track and from the 87-minute documentary on the previous DVD). Andrews also shares a warm 19-minute sit-down with Christopher Plummer. Carr, who over the years has become the film's biggest advocate, narrates a new 22-minute documentary, "On Location with The Sound of Music," in which she revisits the places in Salzburg where the movie was filmed, and even joins one of the "Sound of Music tours" that have become a booming industry. And acknowledging another big industry, there's a 12-minute featurette on the sing-along phenomenon, focusing specifically on the audience, costumed and otherwise, that attended a sold-out Hollywood Bowl sing-along in 2005. Making special appearances at the event are four von Trapp great-grandchildren and all seven of the actors who played the children. Thankfully, those actors also appear in a 33-minute documentary "From Liesl to Gretl: A 40th Anniversary Reunion," in which they explain what they do now (many are still in show business) and share stories about the film, who was afraid of Christopher Plummer, and what they feel is their responsibility to the film's passionate fans. What's touching is how the group still considers themselves a family so many years later. Other material includes an A&E documentary on the von Trapps, Mia Farrow's screen test for the Liesl role, and a restoration comparison.

What's Missing?
If you already own the previous two-disc editions, you'll want this 40th Anniversary Edition as well, but you might not want to toss those versions. Probably the most significant omission from this edition is the original 14-minute documentary Charmian Carr made in 1967, "Salzburg Sight and Sound." Carr's new documentary includes only a couple clips from the vintage piece. It's not a great work of art, but it's a notable loss and would have made a good contrast with the new documentary. In addition, the new making-of documentary is about 24 minutes shorter than the old one. Also missing are the audio-only features--the interviews, the radio programs, the Ernest Lehman spotlight--and the historical still gallery examining the history of Salzburg and the film. Granted, this material probably got the least play of any of the old features, but completists might want to hold onto their old discs for it. It would have also been nice to have screen tests other than Farrow's. Tests for all the children and for Christopher Plummer (including singing in his own voice before he was dubbed for the film) were included on Hollywood Screen Tests and Rodgers and Hammerstein: The Sound of Movies. Again, they're not critical but it would have been nice to have them all in one place. So maybe the 40th Anniversary Edition isn't the complete package on The Sound of Music, but it's the most satisfying edition yet, with enough new material to please even the veteran SoM DVD watcher. --David Horiuchi

Health and Fitness eBooks: The Less Embarrassing Alternatives to the Happy, Healthy Lifestyle You Seek

Did you know people shoplift boxes of condoms more frequently than any other item found a pharmacy's shelves? Think about it for a second. The reason becomes fairly obvious: people are too embarrassed to be seen with condoms in their possession, let along buying them. And perhaps you're one of them--the "embarrassed," not the "shoplifter," that is... Afraid a friend might enter the pharmacy at the point of purchase. A family member. A neighbor. Your boss! Even confronting the cashier who rings up your, um, purchase, or the person standing behind you in line is a potential source of discomfort. Suddenly anyone you encounter equates what you're holding with your blushing face, immediately realizing what you'll be (or at least hope you'll be) doing that evening. Of course, you could be among the brave who march straight to the counter, box in hand held like it were a trophy, greeting everyone as you go. If you are, you're luckier than many who become overwhelmed to the point of simply replacing the box and leaving, or, because they cannot do without, shoving the condoms into their pocket and, well, hoping they remembered to lace their sneakers tight that morning.

Of course harrowing experiences for the easily embarrassed do not limit themselves to the pharmacy. In fact, have you ever considered what books people shoplift most frequently from your local bookstore (to likewise avoid embarrassment)? If you guessed self-help books, you're right. (Interestingly, as a genre, they still manage to outsell any other category on the shelves despite the hordes of shoppers with particularly sticky fingers and deep coat pockets). And not just self-help books related to sexual techniques, marital problems, infidelity or other relationship issues, but also those related to our physical well being, i.e. how to(s) on Health & Fitness.

For example, you may have an issue with acne, bad breath or your weight; browsing the self-help section for a cure of fitness regime only indicates to others that you're self-conscious about what may be equally obvious to them. Or, you may have an issue with something previously unrecognized by the public including premature ejaculation, intense social anxiety, or warts that suddenly, even without witnessing your issue firsthand, become apparent to others as you flip through titles on the latest remedies. Thus self-help books, while partly the bookstores "bread and butter" are also their "condoms," so to speak. Shoppers, likewise, are not only too embarrassed to be caught browsing the self-help shelves, but are doubly embarrassed to then parade throughout the store carrying whichever book applies to their specific issue or perceived inadequacy, only to hand it over to a cashier, immediately letting him or her in on the shopper's previously kept secret. Harrowing indeed!

But, instead of either not buying a book because you are too embarrassed (thus allowing whatever issue ails you to fester and grow), or worse yet shoplifting what is supposed to be self-help, not self-hurt, and potentially subjecting yourself to criminal charges or jail time, you can now find similar information, and often the exact same books, online in an eBook format. Any reader, formerly too embarrassed or otherwise noncommittal about owning up to and confronting their respective issues, perceived inadequacies or habitual vices, can now pursue the diets, cures and other life-enriching methods from the comfort and privacy of their own homes. No more scouring the bookstore shelves or entering the diet center beneath the scrutiny of the public eye. Thanks to Health & Fitness eBooks, anyone can conduct the requisite in-depth and educated research needed to tackle their problems and improve their life, head on, without further worries about answering the prying questions of peers or enduring the judgment of family members.

Download a Health or Fitness related eBook when you want, on your terms; leave a printed version lying about, or keep the digital file tucked safely away on your computer. The choice is yours. Let everyone know (friends, family, neighbors, even your boss!), or limit those who know to those you trust or even to no one at all. Either way, you can begin improving your life immediately at a level of comfort you deserve.

Begin by conducting your research thoroughly, and with the knowledge that eBooks related to Health & Fitness just like their counterparts on the bookstore's shelves, tackle virtually every issue under the sun, under your roof, or simply within yourself, from how to conquer panic attacks to asthma, jet lag to unsightly moles; turn fat into the muscle mass, a belly into bulging biceps or voluptuous breasts; or even learn to maximize your mind's potential.

Finally, eBooks, now that most experts write them in addition to their tangible world publications, offer methods to improve your life that simultaneously accommodate any and all lifestyle choices and belief systems. Examples included hypnosis practiced while sipping a cup of coffee before work, natural alternatives that appease both body and spirit, with or without supplements, some secular, others associated with religious practices, and so on. Whatever your lifestyle or beliefs, you're likely to find a cure for what ails you or a program for your future, without necessarily breaking the bank, and perhaps most important, without the embarrassment of confronting your issues with the whole world watching... Now, if only the same could be done for that box of condoms...

Customer Review: Mastercook

works just as well as the 4.0 version but found some of the directions incomplete and confusing (ie. printing out a cookbook). And I'm unable to find out how to print more than one recipe on one page.

Customer Review: Don't get download version!

I got the download version 3 months ago, and have only just found out through an online discussion forum that all the problems I'm having using it are due to inherent defects in the download version. Apparently those who buy the CD will not experience these same issues (I don't know for certain though). Basically, the downloadable version functions more like a demo version; some features like export and import are limited or don't work at all (you can get recipes in one at a time, but can't select multiple recipes like the instructions tell you you can). A friend of mine and I have both had the same problems (we both bought it at the same time to swap recipes). Tech support is completely useless for these problems and customer service just keeps telling me to re-download it rather than deal with the problem of defective software (I would like them to just send the CD version that works).

I'm really disappointed, as it seems this could be nice software IF IT WORKED RIGHT.

So, if you're going to purchase this and are deciding between the download and CD version, get the CD. You'll have to wait a few extra days for delivery, but will avoid all the aggravation of the download version's bugs. They shouldn't even offer the download version, because it doesn't work right at all.

It's also worth noting that this software is not really very user-friendly for the beginner. Once you play with it a while, it has some nice features (buggy ones notwithstanding), such as being able to embed recipes (i.e., want to write a pie recipe? You can insert an ingredient as "Pie crust" and link to your pie crust recipe without typing it all out twice) but there is a steep learning curve. If you're adventurous and willing to randomly click ambiguous icons, you'll figure it out, but if you're someone who needs blatant, step-by-step instructions with really obvious menu options in software, you might struggle with this one.

However, even if you get nothing else out of it, the included recipes are worth the price of the software; you'd spend far more than that buying recipe books to get that many recipes. So at least I don't feel like I completely threw my money away getting defective software if I can't get it replaced with a functional version.

Customer Review: Great laptop sleeve!

I was looking for a sleeve to protect my Macbook and this Case Logic sleeve fit the bill nicely at a reasonable price. I wanted some extra padding and protection from scratches when I placed the laptop in a tote bag. This sleeve works great! I like that it is reversible. Also, it is a perfect fit for the Macbook and is thick and will provide a good bit of cushioning from minor impacts. Neoprene is waterproof which is also nice in case it rains or you spill something on your bag. One feature that I really appreciated is that there is NO ZIPPER! A lot of sleeves have zippers that are not shielded well from the laptop and can actually scratch your precious laptop. The flap folds down securely without any zipper. If you are looking for something with shoulder straps or extra space to carry adapters and other accessories you need a laptop bag or case and not a sleeve. If you are looking for a great laptop sleeve, though, this is it!

NFL Playoff Action Good for Vegas Books

Pittsburgh's upset of Indianapolis coupled with Denver's disposal of two-time defending Super Bowl champion New England proved to be a knockout blow to the public over the weekend, sending many parlays and teasers tumbling along with futures tickets.

Last week, Stardust Race and Sports Director Bob Scucci forecast a New England-Carolina Super Bowl to the Professional Handicappers League, believing heavy favorite Indianapolis would stumble on the road to Motown, site of the NFL's 2006 showcase.

Monday, Scucci crowed to the Las Vegas Review-Jounal, "If I felt there was a time for the Colts to be ripe for the picking, it was this game, and I said it before the game."

Patrick Daugherty, a Stardust night shift supervisor, and Robert Jaynes, the Stratosphere Tower's race and sports director, agreed bet shops enjoyed a better Saturday than Sunday, which wasn't chopped liver either.

"A lot of teasers were blown with Indy," Daugherty declared, referring to Pittsburgh's stunning 21-18 victory over the Colts that eliminated them from Super Bowl XL contention.

"We had some run over, but it knocked out others," Jaynes said.

Jaynes added that the number was so elevated "educated players" considered it "way too much."

"Some places had it as high as Indy minus 10," he declared. "We opened at 9 1/2 and went down to 8 1/2."

Jaynes revealed the Stratosphere took a "giant" wager -- mingled with many smaller ones --on Indy earlier in the season, when the Colts were 3 1/2 to 1 to win the Super Bowl.

Carolina's 29-21 downing of Chicago was bad news for folks holding Bears futures, as well as bookmakers, who saw early bucks on the Bears but more late ones on the Panthers.

"The public and wise guys both liked Carolina," Daugherty noted. "We went from 3 to 2 1/2.

"Where we did well was with the total."

The 'Dust opened the over/under at 31 1/2, the number dropped to 30 1/2 and went off at 31.

"People were betting the under," Daugherty noted.

The Stratosphere total bounced between 30 and 32, going off at 31.

"The over/under wasn't what did it to us," Jaynes said. "It was the money line and points."

The Seattle-Washington NFC matchup was either a barnburner or sister-kisser, depending on what number you bought -- again highlighting the importance of shopping around for that extra half-point.

The NFC champion Seahawks won 20-10.

"Seattle was bad," Daugherty said succinctly.

"Either you got a small win or a push," Jaynes observed from behind the counter.

Saturday's blockbuster was the Broncos.

"Early money was on the Pats, but we started to see more and more parlay money on Denver as the day went on," Jaynes said.

Stratosphere players were all over the Panthers, so much so that the number slid all the way to Bears minus 2.

"People were saying they thought we had the wrong favorite listed," Jaynes continued. "We went all the way to 2, though some places had it at 3 and even 3 1/2."

Daugherty acknowledged futures liability pretty much dissipated over the weekend.

Some stores had jeopardy on the Bears, others on the Redskins. Chicago opened as high as 100/1 in some futures books.

A number of stores still are out on a limb with the Panthers.

"We'll be rooting against Carolina," Daugherty said, presumably because the Stardust would clear less on the Panthers than with the other three survivors.

The Stratosphere opened Seattle at minus 4 1/2 and the number quickly fell to 4. Denver was posted as a flat 3-point favorite and by Monday afternoon the Broncos were minus 3, minus $1.30.

"Why move the number when you can just raise the price?" Jaynes asked.

The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream

The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream
“A government that truly represents these Americans–that truly serves these Americans–will require a different kind of politics. That politics will need to reflect our lives as they are actually lived. It won’t be pre-packaged, ready to pull off the shelf. It will have to be constructed from the best of our traditions and will have to account for the darker aspects of our past. We will need to understand just how we got to this place, this land of warring factions and tribal hatreds. And we’ll need to remind ourselves, despite all our differences, just how much we share: common hopes, common dreams, a bond that will not break.”
–from The Audacity of Hope

In July 2004, Barack Obama electrified the Democratic National Convention with an address that spoke to Americans across the political spectrum. One phrase in particular anchored itself in listeners’ minds, a reminder that for all the discord and struggle to be found in our history as a nation, we have always been guided by a dogged optimism in the future, or what Senator Obama called “the audacity of hope.”

Now, in The Audacity of Hope, Senator Obama calls for a different brand of politics–a politics for those weary of bitter partisanship and alienated by the “endless clash of armies” we see in congress and on the campaign trail; a politics rooted in the faith, inclusiveness, and nobility of spirit at the heart of “our improbable experiment in democracy.” He explores those forces–from the fear of losing to the perpetual need to raise money to the power of the media–that can stifle even the best-intentioned politician. He also writes, with surprising intimacy and self-deprecating humor, about settling in as a senator, seeking to balance the demands of public service and family life, and his own deepening religious commitment.

At the heart of this book is Senator Obama’s vision of how we can move beyond our divisions to tackle concrete problems. He examines the growing economic insecurity of American families, the racial and religious tensions within the body politic, and the transnational threats–from terrorism to pandemic–that gather beyond our shores. And he grapples with the role that faith plays in a democracy–where it is vital and where it must never intrude. Underlying his stories about family, friends, members of the Senate, even the president, is a vigorous search for connection: the foundation for a radically hopeful political consensus.

A senator and a lawyer, a professor and a father, a Christian and a skeptic, and above all a student of history and human nature, Senator Obama has written a book of transforming power. Only by returning to the principles that gave birth to our Constitution, he says, can Americans repair a political process that is broken, and restore to working order a government that has fallen dangerously out of touch with millions of ordinary Americans. Those Americans are out there, he writes–“waiting for Republicans and Democrats to catch up with them.”

Customer Review: The audacity of hope

I loved Barack Obamas Book

I hope and pray he is our new President.

Customer Review: Its Lightwieght Fluff-A publicity piece

The previous political books I've read this year have been: "The Good Fight"-Ralph Nader and "The New American Story"-Bill Bradley. Following those two incredibly intelligent and progressive books with fluff like Obama's was disappointing to say the least.

There is very little policy or discussion in the real meat and potatoes of issues. But mostly empty feel-good-isms, pointless personal stories, and a ham fisted attempt at niceness. Its a marketing and publicity piece for his campaign and nothing more. I'll probably still vote for him, in the knowledge that the cabinet and administration a president chooses gives the office its true power. But as it stands from everything I've read by him or heard him say; he's a lightweight.

If you are looking for a book with true substance, with a serious and workable outline for change, with full details on how to accomplish it and finance it, try "The New American Story" by Bill Bradley. It has answers and workable solutions to what the nation is facing. Audacity of Hope answered no questions and made no workable solutions. I was VERY disappointed.

Ishihara® Test Chart Book, for Color Deficiency, 14 Plate Book

Ishihara® Test Chart Book, for Color Deficiency, 14 Plate Book
Test Chart Books Features: Accepted by leading authorities as a simple and accurate method for discovering congenital color blindness and red-green blindness, each in two forms, complete and incomplete. Includes four special plates for tests to determine the kind and degree of defect in color vision. Makes use of the peculiarity that in red-green blindness, blue and yellow appear remarkably bright compared with red and green. Consist of a number of colored plates. On each plate is printed a circle made of many different sized dots of slightly different colors, spread in a random manner. Within the dot pattern, and differentiated only by color, is a number. What, or even if, a number is visible indicates if and what form of color blindness the viewer has. The full test consists of thirty-eight plates, but the existence of a deficiency may be clear after fewer plates. The Ishihara Color charts are accepted by leading authorities worldwide as a simple and accurate test method. Color plates encased in specially designed album-type books for ease of handling. Detailed instructions included. What is colorblindness? Color blindness (color vision deficiency) is a condition in which certain colors cannot be distinguished, and is most commonly due to an inherited condition. Red/Green color blindness is by far the most common (99%) form and causes problems in distinguishing reds and greens. Another color deficiency Blue/Yellow also exists, but is rare (1%) and there is no commonly available test for it. There is no treatment for color blindness, nor is it usually the cause of any significant disability. However, it can be very frustrating for individuals affected by it. Those who are not color blind seem to have the misconception that color blindness means that a color blind person sees only in black and white or shades of gray. While this sort of condition is possible, it is extremely rare.

Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman's Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia

Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman's Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia
This beautifully written, heartfelt memoir touched a nerve among both readers and reviewers. Elizabeth Gilbert tells how she made the difficult choice to leave behind all the trappings of modern American success (marriage, house in the country, career) and find, instead, what she truly wanted from life. Setting out for a year to study three different aspects of her nature amid three different cultures, Gilbert explored the art of pleasure in Italy and the art of devotion in India, and then a balance between the two on the Indonesian island of Bali. By turns rapturous and rueful, this wise and funny author (whom Booklist calls “Anne Lamott’s hip, yoga- practicing, footloose younger sister”) is poised to garner yet more adoring fans.

Customer Review: Open minded

I enjoyed this book. It is divided in to short sections so it's easy to put down and pick up again. I really liked her accepting attitude. She is open to other religions and cultures. She doesn't force her views on you. The fundamental Christians in my reading group did not like this book at all! Those of us who are more open minded and don't think we have all the answers enjoyed it.

Customer Review: I can't even finish this book!!

Customer Review: Works well for my Mac!

My main concern was this was going to be a PC centric bag with no thought for the Mac. Well, it fits my Macbook Pro just perfectly and safely. I can store all the extras in the outside pocket and have plenty of room for incidentals, as well as have the other side for paperwork I don't want to be turned into premature recyclable pulp. My only wish was they had a genuine Brown, non-dyed version. I could find no other manufacturer making a nicer model in natural color so this seemed to be the best bet. I've had it for a while now and it's been working out just fine.

Customer Review: great case

I received the notebook case in just a few days from my order and was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the case. The service was excellent and I would by from this vendor again.

Customer Review: Great for Mac users!

Very easy set up. Fast and easy. The only negative comments seem to come from PC users. Maybe the problems are not the hard drive- they are the operating system. If you have a MAC buy it! It is great!

Customer Review: Smaller than it appears but The size I need it

I was unsure which one to get, but I found this and it is good, I can use it USB or Firewire, the sSata is not really usefull for me now, the plus thing I found on it is that it turns on and off automatically with the computer, so no need to go and click on the power botton.

Pride and Prejudice - The Special Edition (A&E, 1996)

Pride and Prejudice - The Special Edition (A&E, 1996)
Jane Austen's classic novel of 1813, Pride and Prejudice, still wins the hearts of countless schoolgirls with its romantic story of Elizabeth Bennet and her Mr. Darcy. Now, the 1996 BBC miniseries is winning over adults, with its faithful adaptation, gorgeous scenery, and superb acting.

The essence of the story is the antagonism between Mr. Darcy, a wealthy single man who believes Elizabeth to be beneath him, and Elizabeth, who upon being insulted at a dance by the aloof Darcy refuses to associate with him in any manner. Austen evokes incredible tension with the wit and flirtation of the two characters, and director Simon Langton (who also directed Upstairs Downstairs) successfully translates the repartee and conflict in this six-hour miniseries. Dialogue, for the most part, is painstakingly replicated, except when fleshing out and smoothing for modern sensibilities was necessary. Darcy, for instance, is drawn out, giving his personality significantly more depth. The acting sweeps you away to Regency England: Jennifer Ehle (of Wilde) is convincing as the obstinate Elizabeth, who, despite her mother's attempts to marry her off, spurs the attentions of Darcy. And Colin Firth (of The English Patient) will have women everywhere longing for a Mr. Darcy of their own.

For those who have been on an Austen binge--enjoying such excellent adaptations as Sense and Sensibility and Persuasion--this miniseries will round out the ultimate Austen video library. For those new to these romantic period pieces, this version of Pride and Prejudice will have you hooked and longing for more. One caveat, however: plan to watch it in an entire day, because very few have the self-control to not watch all six hours in a single sitting. --Jenny Brown

Customer Review: Get the VHS tapes

I love this show. But, the DVD color ruined it. Even with the brightness all the way up, the people had black blobs on their heads instead of hair and the shadows were all pitch black and the bright colors were bluish.

Oh and I bought the special edition, in 2008, and it said it had been remastered for the best quality in picture and sound. Well, they still have some work to do!

I returned the DVD and got the tapes from Amazon marketplace. So beautiful and well worth it!! Get the tapes. There are 6 tapes and even with the hassles of the tapes I was as enchanted as I was when I first saw this on PBS and waited for a rerun!!

Customer Review: Best production of Pride & Prejudice Available

Compared to other available reproductions of Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice, the dialog is very accurate - which makes this a long film, but a must have for any Jane Austen lover, or for any admirer of Mr. Darcy, whom Colin Firth portrays excellently.

Customer Review: A Little Larger Than I Expected, but still a great buy!

I absolutely love the color of this bag! The plaid also adds detail to an otherwise plain bag, something I was looking for, among all of the plain bags on the market today. It was a little larger than I expected, or wanted, but its size can be attributed to it being very wide and thin. I can fit several text books side-by-side and my laptop inside, yet I don't feel like I'm carrying a bulky backpack around with me. I really like the two mesh pouches on the sides; it's very convenient for carrying multiple drink bottles. The quality is excellent. I've only had it for a few months, but it has not started to show signs of wear yet.

This is an excellent bag for someone looking to carry around a large amount of stuff with them. If all you plan on carrying with you is a notebook and a few pens, look for something else that's smaller. If you were like me, and looking for something to carry several books and a computer in, then this bag will suit your purpose to the letter.

Customer Review: This is the bag for kids to take everything they need to school!

This messenger bag was exactly what I wanted. Both the size and color are perfect. My kids have had problems fitting notebooks into the size of most backpack made these days and they would die before pulling a backpack with a handle. A three ring binder fits easily in the messenger bag and the second opening fits my daughters lunch box. Both compartments have room to spare. The smaller pockets and the zipper pocket on the flap give tons of storage. The shoulder strap is padded for comfort and adjusts. This is a great bag! The quality is there. This isn't going to fall apart any time soon. Your kids can actually fit the things that they need to take to school in it. This was a REALLY good find!

Star Wars Trilogy

Star Wars Trilogy
Customer Review: Always loved it and always will

The original Star Wars trilogy will always stand in first place for my sci-fi loving heart, when it comes to classic, wonderfully told space adventure. The special effects were groundbreaking at the time, and today, are just as powerful, though we would do them differently now. The characters are multi-dimensional, and the story of good vs. evil is masterfully played out. For anyone who loves sci-fi, this needs to be at the top of the list.

Customer Review: Best Episodes EVER!!!

If I could give this series 6 stars I would. These films were an absolutely amazing breakthrough in cinematography. These movies, while slightly hokey by today's standards, have stood the test of time with amazing resilience. This version with the remastered sound but no change in the screenplay or visual effects is by far the best of all of Lucas' films.

Transformers (Two-Disc Special Edition) [HD DVD]

Transformers (Two-Disc Special Edition) [HD DVD]
"I bought a car. Turned out to be an alien robot. Who knew?" deadpans Sam Witwicky, hero and human heart of Michael Bay's rollicking robot-smackdown fest, Transformers. Witwicky (the sweetly nerdy Shia LaBeouf, channeling a young John Cusack) is the perfect counterpoint to the nearly nonstop exhilarating action. The plot is simple: an alien civil war (the Autobots vs. the evil Decepticons) has spilled onto Earth, and young Sam is caught in the fray by his newly purchased souped-up Camaro. Which has a mind--and identity, as a noble-warrior robot named Bumblebee--of its own. The effects, especially the mind-blowing transformations of the robots into their earthly forms and back again, are stellar.

Fans of the earlier film and TV series will be thrilled at this cutting-edge incarnation, but this version should please all fans of high-adrenaline action. Director Bay gleefully salts the movie with homages to pop-culture touchstones like Raiders of the Lost Ark, King Kong, and the early technothriller WarGames. The actors, though clearly all supporting those kickass robots, are uniformly on-target, including the dashing Josh Duhamel as a U.S. Army sergeant fighting an enemy he never anticipated; Jon Voight, as a tough yet sympathetic Secretary of Defense in over his head; and John Turturro, whose special agent manages to be confidently unctuous, even stripped to his undies. But the film belongs to Bumblebee, Optimus Prime, and the dastardly Megatron--and the wicked stunts they collide in all over the globe. Long live Transformers! --A.T. Hurley

Customer Review: Awesome Action for All Ages!

First, I should mention that I am a BIG fan of action films. However, I had no interest in seeing this movie when I heard it was in production. How could anything compare to the cartoon I watched as a kid? My fiance asked me to accompany him to the theatre when TRANSFORMERS opened, and I had a BLAST! This film brought back memories of my childhood and with all that's going on in the world right now, it felt good to be a kid again. The special effects are stunning and the sound is spectacular, but this film is special because it has great humor (for older kids and adults), very little foul language, and the best part of all: good triumphs over evil. I highly recommend it. Watch it with your kids and remember your childhood!

Customer Review: Who says only guys love this flick!

Talk about an awesome remake! I grew up on the cartoon, and this movie delivered cars (and trucks) transforming into robots. That being said, the rest of the movie did lack a some emotional connection. But hey, we didn't go to see the love story, we went to see Prime!

The Easi-Reader Bookstand

The Easi-Reader Bookstand
Holds reading material in a comfortable position for hands-free reading. Made of chrome-plated steel, this item folds away easily for storage.

Customer Review: Great for hardbacks, textbooks

Very simple and cheap, but not much is needed from a book stand. Some reviewers complain that it doesn't hold paperbacks, but one can easily see from looking at it that it wouldn't be good for that, so I didn't knock it.

I use this stand to hold my textbooks up while I'm reading and taking notes, which is really nice to keep from having to hunch over a book to read it flat on a table. Also it allows the book to take up less desk space, which is nice when reading and using a computer at the same time. Since it's light and collapsable, it's also very useful to take along to classes and have the same benefits in the classroom as well.

Customer Review: Grandmom says, Wonderful gadget!

This stand proved to be better that I expected. It holds large, heavy (read coffee table) books easily and is so portable as to be a pleasure. Folds very thin and can slip in the smallest tote or brief case. Also great for the morning paper (don't want to gump up your paper while you're buttering your bagel!); but if you are only a paperback reader, I'd give this one a pass. For the price, what's not to like!
