Many of us love to read. Some of us who love to read the most are introverts, so I went to the source to find out what its all about.

Here are two things that seem to be true of people who have developed a love of reading:

They were taught to read before they went to school, often by a parent Most couldnt even count the number of books theyve read in a lifetime. One reader wrote, Almost as many drinks of water as Ive taken. Cant begin to guess. Hundreds and thousands seem to be the norm.

When a parent or loved one teaches you to read, its associated with a loving atmosphere.

Many people who love to read tell me that being read to was a regular part of their life as a child.

My father read to me and my sister every night, without fail. The books he chose even my mother had to object to at times Black Arrow, and The Three Musketeers, for instance, but it really didnt matter to me. I loved hearing my fathers voice, and I picked up his obvious love of literature. He approached each reading session with enthusiasm, more in the nonverbals than in anything he said, but certainly I could tell it was something he really looked forward to.

He would pick up the clearly-beloved book, and settle back in the chair, sigh and assume a posture of ahhh, at last. What a wonderful way to transmit a love of learning.

When I was ready to go to college, and was kind of dubious, he told me Id like it a lot more than high school. He said The kids are nicer, and the level of learning is much more enjoyable. You wont have to memorize much.

Those pat phrases reading broadens you and learning enriches your life, were lived in my household. Yes, my father worked. Yes, he did things around the house. Yes, when he settled in to read us a book at night it seemed the part of the day he most looked forward to.

Lifelong learning appears to be one of the qualities that builds our Resilience. Research by Al Siebert, Ph.D., has found that people who live longer, healthier, happier lives have incorporated learning in every stage of their life instead of abandoning learning after college.

One reason I love reading is that its always available. When youre stuck in a traffic jam, or waiting for a late-running soccer practice to end, or getting a prescription filled at the pharmacy, or stuck at work with nothing to do, you can always get on the internet and read, or pull out a book.

Reading and learning are available under most conditions. There were years (before the Internet) when I couldnt afford books and I would go to the public library. There were also used book fairs, and now there are used book stores.

Theres also the used book option at amazon.com, as well as the plethora of free learning material on the Internet. You dont have to spend a cent, and you dont have to leave your house.

Customer Review: A Must Own Collection

These films are no doubt part of American Cinema at it's best!

I grew up watching these movies and even today when I sit back and watch them, I appreciate them even more as if it's my first time tunning in.

The locations, the acting, the screenplay all work perfectly. I don't think there are words left to describe how amazing this collection is on DVD.



I heard George Lucas is set to release these films on it's own soon, but why bother? Why spend your money on the same thing, even if your going to get some new bonus features. It's not like your getting a brand new movie.



I would recommend to wait until the 4th installment hits DVD shelves, then maybe it would be worth a purchase if it gets released into the box set. Till then...this collection is timeless!

At least on the set I'm watching, the captions on the extra disc are attempted but are NOT well done. It's apparent that they haven't been "cleaned up," so understanding can be iffy. I appreciate the effort, but it would be nice if the execution were better.

I ordered the Bullfrog Webkinz for my sister for her birthday because she loves frogs. My daughter has the pink poodle, but the seam came undone underneath. It wasn't hard to fix, but a little annoying. I wish they were a little bit larger, but I like the price, so I guess it all works out. Overall a great toy. For many listeners, Little Voice will be their first exposure to this soulful singer/songwriter, but it's actually Sara Bareilles' second record. Her first, the self-released Careful Confessions, led to a deal with Epic. Since then, Bareilles has opened for Marc Broussard and Maroon 5. She's also become a bonafide soundtrack queen with tracks featured in female-centric films Girl Play, Loving Annabelle, and Monster-in-Law. As with her out-of-print debut, the UCLA grad wrote every song on her first major label recording (Little Voice features re-worked versions of several demo numbers). Like the portrait on the back of the CD--Bareilles in strappy black dress and lace-free high-tops--the piano-playing chanteuse combines the sweet with the scruffy. While her jazzy pop melodies are radio-ready, her relationship-oriented lyrics can be unexpectedly salty ("Bottle Up" and "Come Round Soon" wouldn't pass FCC muster). A little profanity here and there, however, doesn't indicate tough-girl attitude--Amy Winehouse can rest easy--so much as a desire to express herself freely. As Bareilles explains in "Love Song," "I'm trying to let you hear me as I am." (Not surprisingly, her degree is in communications.) Fans of Sarah McLachlan and Alicia Keyes will find much to like here. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Sara Bareilles has a voice of an angel, no doubt. Her songs, which consists of pop, alternative, funk, and soul genres make you want to sing along song after song. I love listening to her after a stressful day or school and work. Her voice really does soothes my "soul". There is no other better way to describe it. A must buy!

This isn't going to be a very sophisticated review; nor is it necessarily objective. I loved the CD mostly because I really enjoy her voice; I find it nice and mellow and fun to listen to in the car. I heard her first on the Napster commercial and decided I had to have her CD, pure and simple. Little known artists need all the help they can get in the form of CD sales, so any type of illegal download is out of the question. I think America has to vote with their wallets in this type of situation.



And yes, I do believe others will enjoy her music as well, although I understand this style is not for everyone. So, if you liked her sound-bite on the commercial, you won't be disappointed by buying the full version.

Your Weight Loss Problem: How-To Cure It By Watching Movies Or Reading Books!

I dont know anything about you but if youre anything like me then you struggle with a weight loss problem. Your weight loss problem consists of you struggling to keep your weight down or struggling to make your weight go down.

Most people who see me wouldnt believe that I have a weight loss problem, but I do. Ive battled bulimia and constant gains and losses in weight, of ten pounds each time. Thats what I call a big weight loss problem.

A lot of women and men with the same or a similar weight loss problem would sympathize with me Im sure. I want to look good (who doesnt?) so that always motivates me to go on a diet.

But after sticking to a diet for a week and dropping the unwanted weight my love for good tasting food overpowers my need to feel attractive and the weight piles back on pound by pound.

There is always exercise to help with a weight loss problem, I remind myself as I lie lazily on the couch chomping down on one of my non-diet treats. Sure! I groan I dont feel like wearing my butt out without seeing any results for weeks at a time.

Whenever I start a workout regimen I only stick to it for a few weeks (usually less) and then I get bored and drop it. So my weight loss problem continues.

How many other women I wondered (or men, for that matter) get bored while exercising? I thought about that for awhile then I set about to find a solution to help all those poor people (and myself too, of course) with this weight loss problem.

First I asked myself: What did I like to do? What did I find Interesting?

Hmmmm, well I thought I like dancing, but long periods of it are exhausting. I like to read, to listen to music, and I really dislike being on my feet for over long periods of time.

What could possibly combine all or most of these to make my exercising interesting and help solve my weight loss problem?

The solution to my weight loss problem was amazingly simple!

I own an old stationary bike, and I do mean OLD, but the important thing is that it operates. You can do this with any form of stationary bike, whether its a twenty year old model or an up to date model.

It doesnt matter whether you own the stationary bike or use a gyms or your local YMCAs or YWCAs facilities.

My weight loss problem solution is this:

Find something engrossing to read. It could be a novel or your favorite magazine. Or listen to music that you enjoy, you could even use audio books or any different CDs or things you could listen to.

I suppose if your bike was somewhere around a television or computer with a DVD player, you could even watch your favorite movie.

The next step is to mount your stationary bide and start biking while reading or doing any of the above listed activities, and not to get off for at least 45 to 60 minutes, except for an occasional rest every quarter of an hour.

I usually just keep biking away the whole time and sometimes I bike longer because Im so engrossed in what Im reading, and I wont allow myself to read it once Im off the stationary bike.

After a week of this, without change in my eating habits, or any dieting, Im maintaining a healthy weight. Best of all Im not putting on any new pounds, and my legs look visibly slimmer.

So I've kissed my weight loss problem goodbye, and I'm saying hello to slim jeans and size 6 dresses, and you can too.

For the first time in a long while I actually look forward to putting on a bikini ;-)

I saw him in 1985 during the Born in the USA tour and consider that show to be the best live concert I've ever attended. I pre-ordered Magic based on comments by Springsteen's manager that this album echoed the Boss's work of the 1970's. Having listened through the album several times, I do not agree with that assessment. I agree with many others that some of the lyrics are hard to understand. For a person like Springsteen who has something to say about life in our times, I think the words matter. Many of the songs aim for the good-time feel of some of Springsteen's earlier work with the obligatory Clarence Clemon's solos and fine keyboard work by Roy Bittan, but they don't have much to say. The highlights for me are the buoyant "Livin' in the Future" and the wry cover song "Magic," both subtle damnations of the policies of the "Current Occupant." I admire Springsteen for putting his reputation and career on the line to say what needs to be said in this day and age of people who will crucify you for speaking against those currently in power. But he should have made sure the final mix of the songs put those words out front. I wanted to like this album. 'You'll Be Coming Down' is what they wish they would have accomplished with The Rising.'Livin' In The Future' would have fit perfectly with The River, and gives vision to what everyone wishes they could say sometimes, "We're living in the future, and none of this has happened yet." 'Girls In Their Summer Clothes' is one of the best songs the band has ever recorded reminding us of early Springsteen. 'Last To Die' is easily the best anti-war-in-Iraq song to ever come along. While the 'Long Walk Home' may just be the best to come along in the last ten years from anyone, one that truly has to be heard to fully appreciate. When I was given this book for the first time, about 8 years ago when my health was at an all-time low that had been slowly declining for years. I was under 30 and had a list of chronic ailments longer than any senior citizen I knew; terrible heartburn every day all the time, gas, bloating, painful bowel movements (terribly painful), chronic vaginitis, chronic acute asthma so bad I was on 3 inhalers, pills, steroids AND I was still in the ER about once per month, weight gain, fatigue, major irritability and mood swings, depression, horrible lower back issues that always coincided with asthma flare ups (which of course, MDs told me were unrelated!), allergies to everything...I was a mess but it crept up so slowly over time I didn't even "get" how ridiculous it was. It seemed that everyone around me had similar issues and complaints (except maybe for the asthma) so I accepted it like the sleepwalking masses. I'd started to wake up and tried things like the Zone and Blood type diets. They were ok and I'd see some improvements but not anywhere near enough, no matter how disciplined I was. But when I went to see a chiropractor ( a really good one) who also practiced other wonderful forms of holistic healing, she handed me an older edition of this book and said that ALL of my issues were related to one underlying cause; Candidiasis. I'd never heard of it but I was thrilled to see her react so matter of factly to my list of ailments and to be so confident about healing them, naturally. She said to take it home, read it, don't freak out if it seems overwhelming (which it did at first), then put it down and forget about it for a few days (letting the information filter into the subconscious) and then pick it up and reread it again. The second time I read it, everything clicked. It didn't seem intimidating and she and I even worked together to sort of mold it to my personal needs. We added the use of some wonderful supplements since I was so toxic; Paragone and Parazyme by Renew Life, and daily mega-doses of Metagenics probiotics (and later on, Dr. Ohhira's). Customer Review: Not the old Springsteen "magic" I have been a Bruce Springsteen fan for more than 20 years and own most of his music. I saw him in 1985 during the Born in the USA tour and consider that show to be the best live concert I've ever attended. I pre-ordered Magic based on comments by Springsteen's manager that this album echoed the Boss's work of the 1970's. Having listened through the album several times, I do not agree with that assessment. I agree with many others that some of the lyrics are hard to understand. For a person like Springsteen who has something to say about life in our times, I think the words matter. Many of the songs aim for the good-time feel of some of Springsteen's earlier work with the obligatory Clarence Clemon's solos and fine keyboard work by Roy Bittan, but they don't have much to say. The highlights for me are the buoyant "Livin' in the Future" and the wry cover song "Magic," both subtle damnations of the policies of the "Current Occupant." I admire Springsteen for putting his reputation and career on the line to say what needs to be said in this day and age of people who will crucify you for speaking against those currently in power. But he should have made sure the final mix of the songs put those words out front. I wanted to like this album. 'You'll Be Coming Down' is what they wish they would have accomplished with The Rising.'Livin' In The Future' would have fit perfectly with The River, and gives vision to what everyone wishes they could say sometimes, "We're living in the future, and none of this has happened yet." 'Girls In Their Summer Clothes' is one of the best songs the band has ever recorded reminding us of early Springsteen. 'Last To Die' is easily the best anti-war-in-Iraq song to ever come along. While the 'Long Walk Home' may just be the best to come along in the last ten years from anyone, one that truly has to be heard to fully appreciate. I thought this was a great book. Much of it is truly horrifying but it makes you SOOO thankful not to live on the earth that's described. I listened to the audio book because I'd read so many comments about how readers were distracted by McCarthy's minimalist prose. If you are planning on reading this book and think that his style will bother you, I recommend the audio version. Tom Stechschulte reads it and does a wonderful job. The book is dark. It is dark in a soul-wrenching way. I found myself tearing up at some of the simplest passages, because McCarthy taps into very real human emotion and thought. How many of us haven't wondered about a post-apocalyptic world? McCarthy makes it real and understandable, even if we don't know exactly how it happened, how many years it is post disaster, or even the characters' names. It's easy to envision the gray world that McCarthy paints with his words. The contrasts of the two main characters makes for some interesting comparisons. The boy knows nothing but a post-apocalyptic world - the man remembers what once was and what's been lost. They have two opposite perspectives, and that sets the book up for real introspection. The rambling journey they take is as aimless and purposeless of a post-apocalyptic life. There are some real moments of terror that might not be suitable for younger readers.
