Electronic Textbooks ? Efficient Replacements for Traditional College Textbooks

In the last few years, college campus bookstores have continuously put students under pressure, selling curricular textbooks at prices that exceed the financial possibilities of the average student, already burdened by high tuition costs and additional expenses for one?s education. According to recent studies, a required new course textbook can cost between $100 and $200 in the campus bookstore, students rarely finding better offers in other specialized offline resources. Forced to spend a small fortune in order to gather a minimum number of curricular textbooks, students nationwide suffer pronounced gaps in their budgets during each school year. Although they clearly realize that they are being ripped off, most students continue to spend exaggerated sums of money on new college textbooks available for purchase in college campus bookstores; others look for cheaper alternatives in used bookstores or on the Internet, while some decide to borrow their needed textbooks from colleagues.

According to a recent study conducted by CALPIRG ? the California Public Interest Research Group in 59 superior educational facilities across the country, college textbook prices have increased at four times the rate of inflation over the last few years. As very few parties are currently trying to find efficient solutions to the problem, the phenomenon continues to grow and is expected to become even more acute in the near future. Considering the fact that the average cost of college textbooks is estimated at $900 a year per student, study materials substantially add to the already high cost of a higher education.

The high costs of today?s college textbooks represent a problem with many different aspects. The primary reason why college textbook prices have rocketed over the last few years is poor competition on the market. As long as college bookstores continue to hold the monopoly over the specialized market, the costs of new college textbooks are expected to grow further. Although at present there are many competitive resources that offer both new and used textbooks for more affordable prices than those established by campus bookstores, they currently cover a small segment of the market and don?t pose a serious threat to college campus bookstores.

The unaffordable prices of most curricular college textbooks are primarily the consequence of frequent and often unneeded updates and reviews, but also high production costs, according to textbook publishers. Thus, an effective solution to the problem would be to completely eliminate the costs of ink and paper by replacing traditional college textbooks with electronic study materials. In electronic format, the college textbooks of tomorrow will not only be substantially cheaper, but will also include interactive content, thus stimulating students? imagination and raising their interest for learning.

Digital college textbooks are expected to offer major educational advantages, as they will comprise many different tools into a single volume. Unlike traditional textbooks, such study materials will introduce videos, simulations and various interactive games which will help students better understand the topics discussed in class. The next generation of e-books will open new educational perspectives, creating a new, innovative model for teaching. By corroborating affordability with great educational value, the electronic college textbooks of tomorrow will open many new horizons for students in superior educational facilities worldwide.

Customer Review: excellent memories book

the book is so cute! it's orange and green - not pink and green like it looks in the picture. you can put tons of pictures in it, there are tons of pages for dates that are important... an excellent book to keep all of babies memories in. I bought a carters one for my first kid and then this one for the second. i love them both and they are very similar, but i loved this ones colors more.

Customer Review: Love it!

I love this baby book! It is everything I was looking for. Really nice quality and lots of space to write in facts and for pictures. The only issue I have is that in the picture it looks pink and when it arrived it is actually light green on the right side and the gingham on the spine is a peachy coral. Still it's really cute, but if the color is really important to you, be aware.

Anne of Green Gables

Anne of Green Gables
This gorgeous adaptation of Lucy Maud Montgomery's classic children's story is well worth watching with the whole family. Produced for Canadian television, it's one of those rare productions that actually sticks to the book and even enhances it through first-rate performances and an excellent script. Set on bucolic Prince Edward Island in the late 19th century, Anne of Green Gables is the story of Anne Shirley, an imaginative and headstrong orphan. When brother and sister Marilla and Mathew Cuthbert decide to adopt an orphan boy to help Matthew work the farm, they are astonished when Anne arrives at the train station by mistake. "What use is she to us?" grumbles the gruff Marilla. "We might be of some use to her," answers Matthew, who has taken an instant liking to the talkative Anne. As Anne grows up, her adventures are both hilarious and moving. It's a delight to watch as she forms a friendship with the beautiful Diana and her admirer--the dashing Gilbert Blythe--then dyes her hair green, cracks a slate over Gilbert's head when he calls her "Carrots," and finds a sympathetic teacher who encourages her to attend college.

Richard Farnsworth is perfect as the shy and gentle bachelor Matthew, who confides to Anne that he never went courting because "I would have had to say something." Colleen Dewhurst delivers a nuanced and powerful performance as Marilla, a seemingly cold-hearted spinster whose no-nonsense exterior conceals a warm heart. And as Anne, Megan Follows strikes the perfect note, maturing from freckle-faced orphan to elegant and poised young woman. --Elisabeth Keating

Customer Review: A film for teachers that don't want to teach...

Films are amazing because they can literally take any shape, any sound, any form, and any size. They are the chameleon of entertainment. As a viewer, you cannot jump into a film with expectations, because due to the circumstances listed above, one may never know the particular outcome. Films can arrive in forms of made-for-television releases, direct-to-DVD releases, or through mainstream venues. It is a magical moment beginning a film through the ending - there is a level of unknown as well as random emotions throughout. "Anne of Green Gables" was one of those surprise random moments for me where I didn't know what to expect, but went through a barrage of emotion before arriving to this conclusion. In film, it may be cliché to say "size does matter", but with exploding budgets and timelines over 120 minutes, size is becoming a hot commodity in Hollywood. "Anne of Green Gables" is one of those low budget, little screen book adaptations that literally takes every page and puts it in cinematic lights. Carrying both positive and negative attributes, "Anne of Green Gables" takes three hours of your life, puts it in a made-for-TV blender, blends, and forces you to drink the resulting concoction. How does it taste going down? Don't worry - that is what I am here for.

"Anne of Green Gables" begins with Anne's life in an orphanage, living with uncaring foster parents, all the way through her lavish life with her new parents, Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert. She goes through the struggles of being an independent woman living in a prim and proper world. Leading us as Anne is Megan Follows, a young girl with a television filled resume, who provides us with the shell of Anne, but not quite the full-body development. Follows is my first experience with Anne, and since there is little to judge, I must admit she was follow-able, but not quite developed. The words that she engulfed were charismatic, she defined the role, but when she walked, cried, or ran - she didn't seem to be that same Anne again. Follows felt like a stage actress trapped in an invisible cinema box. Either she wasn't allowed the explore all the elements, or she just didn't have to. This film was your typical made-for-TV movie that didn't need actors escaping their shells because they had picturesque views and longevity on their side. They were telling a story, not winning awards - and with this film it was obvious. Don't yell - I did like what Follows did, I just didn't love her performance. Perhaps a stack rankings of all the others that portrayed Anne would allow Fellows' performance to stand out, but watching this film alone - something just felt missing. Richard Farnsworth's Matthew was another abandoned character, with no emotion and void of life. Every time he opened his mouth, nothing of excitement protruded. Colleen Dewhurst was the cliché angry woman, unwilling to change, yet something about Anne eventually brings her to a new understanding of life. These two were the leading figures around Anne, and working together they provided a good story - but poorly developed characters. There was minimal emotion surrounding them as they went from scene to scene. For these actors, it was obviously a job; they allowed the movie to tell the story.

Having never read the story of Anne and her adventures at Green Gables, director Kevin Sullivan should be commended for bringing such a drab story to life. The adventures of the protagonist Anne includes minimal excitement, the cliché drunken friend, the death of a loved one, the adolescent blurts of English - all can be found in other films of this nature like "Little House on the Prairie" or any "After School Special", but Sullivan did bring some snippets of joy to this story. He made it long, which allowed us to sink into the environment, believe that it was forced, and yet one can find simple joys in the stagy-ness of it all. Sullivan's direction was impeccable; he took no risks, created nothing original, and played it by the book. He allowed the story to grow, but again, there wasn't much story to grow. Anne stays in one place, runs around everywhere, and grows an iconic challenge with a local boy who is equally as talented (and equally as drab). I am not a pre-teen girl, I am missing the "bosom" friend, and obviously this film wasn't targeted towards my demographic, but it should still entertain. Anyone who argues that they could sit through such lifeless characters must be first in line to the new Larry the Cable Guy film. While I am drawing random tangents, my point is the meat was missing from this adventure. The scenery was fantastic, the pacing was fluent, but our characters could not bring me to a second viewing. Where was the passion in this film? Why did Sullivan allow cardboard to grace his screen?

Overall, "Anne of Green Gables" was a lengthy film, with cardboard characters, but a plethora of beautiful scenes. There wasn't much music to talk about, outside of the same three chords played over and over again. Richard Farnsworth proved yet again that his name filled his resume, while Megan Follows played her part while keeping within her self-proclaimed box. As a reviewer of films, I want to see progression, development; strong single elements that make each film stand out from the cattle of the rest. With this film it felt safe, it was a family film that took no risks, it felt like a Styrofoam box on the ocean - you really should take it out, but you worry about getting wet and sea creatures. "Anne of Green Gables" was an 80s film without the pizzazz. If I had a daughter who wanted to watch this film, I could hope it would help her sleep. Coupled with the characters, the story is ironically bland, and even the director didn't push for risks. It was a film. I was happy when it was over, could never dream about watching it again, yet I can't fault it for anything dramatic. It wasn't the greatest made-for-TV film, but there is little to complain about.

It was sterile. It was cardboard. It was copper.

Grade: ** 1/2 out of *****

Customer Review: Classic

I bought this movie for my daughter and she has watched it many times, she loves the movie. She also had a movie party with her friends, they all came over to watch it, everyone enjoyed it.

Apple MacBook Pro MA895LL/A 15.4" Laptop (2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB RAM, 120 GB Hard Drive, DVD/CD SuperDrive)

Apple MacBook Pro MA895LL/A 15.4" Laptop (2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB RAM, 120 GB Hard Drive, DVD/CD SuperDrive)
Stylishly and intelligently designed for mobile professionals, Apple's MacBook Pro gets a serious speed bump with the new, powerful Intel chipset (dubbed Santa Rosa), which provides a faster Core 2 Duo processor, longer battery life, and native support for 802.11n wireless connectivity. This model (MA895LL/A) also includes a new mercury-free, power-efficient LED-backlit display measuring 15.4 inches and a state-of-the art NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT video card for more realistic graphics for animation and gaming. This MacBook Pro is powered by the new 2.2 GHz Core 2 Duo T7500 processor and 2 GB of 667 MHz DDR2 memory--the fastest portable computer memory currently on the market (June 2007). But some things haven't changed: the trademark stunning aluminum enclosure that's is just one-inch thin, built-in iSight video camera, and Apple's magnetically connected MagSafe power adapter, which safely disconnects when under strain.

This MacBook Pro measures just 1 inch thin and weighs 5.4 pounds.
Other hardware features include a 120 GB hard drive, 8x SuperDrive for burning multiple disc formats, built-in 10/100/1000 BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet for high-speed networking, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR (Enhanced Data Rate), a FireWire 800 and a FireWire 400 port, an ExpressCard/34 expansion card slot for expansion solutions such as 3G wireless networking, and a DVI video output.

Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
The Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 processor has a 2.2 GHz processor speed, super-fast 800 MHz front-side bus (FSB), and an enormous 4 MB of Smart Cache, an L2 cache that can be shared between the cores as needed. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)

The Intel Core 2 Duo's 128-bit SSE3 vector engine handles 128-bit computations in a single clock cycle, accelerating data manipulation by simultaneously applying a single instruction to multiple data. And its two execution cores are designed to share resources and conserve power, helping it to achieve higher levels of performance since it uses fewer watts

The new 15-inch MacBook Pro offers a new mercury-free, power-efficient LED-backlit display with an antiglare finish that's perfect for color-minded professionals.
Display and Graphics
The 15.4-inch widescreen TFT (non-glossy) display offers a native resolution of 1440 x 900 pixels and an antiglare widescreen display that's perfect for color-minded professionals. The new MacBook Pro display is backlit by light emitting diodes (LEDs), which gives it a lighter weight and more power efficiency than the cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFLs) which most notebooks employ. It's also better for the environment, thanks to its new mercury-free display.

Video and graphics are powered by the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT card, which is boosted by 128 MB of GDDR3 SDRAM. GDDR3 (Graphics Double Data Rate, version 3) is a graphics card-specific memory technology that's better able to deliver fluid frame rates for even the most advanced games and applications. The GeForce 8600M GT brings a new level of realism to the MacBook Pro with its 16-lane PCI Express architecture, 16x full screen anti-aliasing, 128-bit High Dynamic Range rendering, and a texture fill rate of up to 8.2 billion per second.

Hard Drive and Memory
The 120 GB Serial-ATA (SATA) hard drive (5400 RPM) provides more than enough space to store business-related documents and presentations, as well as offers space for a large digital audio and video library. This SATA hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to FireWire and USB 2.0. The 2 GB of PC5300 DDR2 RAM (two SO-DIMMs of 1 GB) have an industry-leading 667 MHz speed, and the RAM capacity can be increased to a whopping 4 GB.

Wireless Connectivity
The built-in 802.11n wireless networking provides up to five times the performance and twice the range of 802.11g, but it's also backward-compatible with 802.11a/b/g routers, enabling you to communicate with the a wide variety of Wi-Fi resources. It works seamlessly with the new AirPort Extreme with 802.11n. Use the built-in Bluetooth wireless technology to connect to your PDA or cell phone, synchronize addresses, or download pictures from your cell phone. You can also use a wireless headset for iChat audio chats and VoIP calls as well as quickly share files with a colleague.

Video Conferencing with Built-in iSight
Artfully placed in the display bezel is an iSight camera, which enables easy video conferencing as well as allows you to snap pictures of yourself and create video podcasts. Using the iChat AV application, video conferencing is integrated into your iChat buddy list, so initiating a video conference is a breeze. iChat also lets you hold audio chats with up to 10 people and provides high-quality audio compression and full-duplex sound so conversation can flow naturally. For video podcasting, you can record a short clip using the iSight camera, then use iWeb to create a video blog entry or post your GarageBand-recorded podcast.

Apple Innovations

The magnetically connected MagSafe power adapter breaks cleanly away, without damage to either the cord or the MacBook Pro, if you trip over the cord..
The MacBook Pro is the culmination of years of refining hardware and software design to an integrated art. One of Apple's most celebrated innovations is the MagSafe power adapter connector with offers a magnetic connection instead of a physical one. So, if you happen to trip over a power cord, you won't send MacBook Pro flying off a table or desk--the cord simply disconnects, without damage to either the cord or the system. As an added nicety, this means less wear on the connectors.

Using two-fingered scrolling, you can easily scroll around your documents or open contextual menus with one hand.
The trackpad can tell if you've got one finger on the pedal, or two. With two, you can easily scroll around your documents or open contextual menus. When you need right-click functionality, simply open ÒKeyboard and MouseÓ in System Preferences and enable the secondary click preference.

The MacBook Pro has battery life that rivals most notebooks in its class. If you'd like to make that battery last even longer, Mac OS X has a few tricks up its sleeve. Go to System Preferences, click Energy Saver, and change battery optimization from Normal to Better Battery Life. Or tell MacBook Pro to reduce its screen brightness and give yourself a little more time untethered.

And with the included Apple Remote and Front Row software, you can show off your latest photos and access your iTunes music and playlists from across the room. You can also use it to watch downloaded movies and TV episodes as well as control playback of DVD movies. The Apple Remote features a minimalist six buttons--just press the Menu button to activate Front Row and begin to navigate through your media. Customer Review: MacBook Pro

The MacBook Pro is great, looks great and works well. The only thing is the new operating system wasn't loaded to the laptop but the disk was included. Other than that, everything is great. Love it.

Customer Review: MacBook Pro

I bought this computer one month ago and the price has dropped $305! I bought an Apple for its reputation as a reliable system. This one crashes regularly, especially when I attempt to use the help function. Also, it does not pick up wireless signals unless they are very, very strong. My six-year old Toshiba works better than this machine. Definitely not worth the premium paid.

SAD is the absolute worst. I bought the litebook for the few weeks before I'd be able to get medication for the depression, but the light therapy gave me such fantastic results that it's all I need. I use it for 30 minutes when I first wake up, and I'm more energetic, healthier, and happier.

Customer Review: Really a life-saver in the winter

S.A.D. You know it, you feel it, you hate it every year. Well this year was different when we got this bad boy in December. Use it 30minutes in the morning and am extremely satisfied.

Nintendo DS Lite Browser

Nintendo DS Lite Browser
The Nintendo DS Lite Browser was co-developed by Nintendo and Opera and provides web browsing on the Nintendo DS Lite. The Opera browser software is stored on the Nintendo DS Lite cartridge, a memory expansion you caninsert into the GBA slot. The browser uses both screens of the Nintendo DS Lite handheld. While the standard screen is displayed on the bottom, an expansion will be provided on the upper screen to provide a better browsing experience. Type your Web address on a keyboard display or using the DS stylus. A parent lock function is provided to disable the access to the internet for children.

Customer Review: Sooo slooow

I eagerly awaited the release of the Opera browser for the DS. My girlfriend tried to talk me out of buying it, but I had faith in Opera after using the top notch Wii browser. Now, I have buyer's remorse. Before I bought it, I had already come to terms with it's lack of Flash. After I started using it, though, I realized there were bigger problems. It takes minutes upon minutes to load anything. Loading a single Facebook page takes on average 2-3 minutes with images disabled. This application is basically useless to me. I could see it being of some use if you're stranded on a deserted island with only your DS, assuming the deserted island has wifi, and you have many hours of time to kill whilst awaiting your rescue.

I'm already eager for the next gen of the DS so that Opera can put out a real browser. Only buy this as an emergency browser, since everyday usage is pointless.

Customer Review: Worth the buy

The only reason I did not give the Nintendo browser 5 stars is because it doesnt play video or sound. As far as web browsing, it is beyond my expectations. I read through lots of negative comments about the browser but am very glad that i bought it. The split screens and keyboard make browsing the net very simple and easy. Text and pictures are very clear. Loading times vary. I have cable internet so it was quicker than I expected it would be.

The only problem I encountered was accessing my hotmail account through Windows Live. It doesn't work. Some said to set it to classic but I found that was impossible. You can access hotmail through the msn mobile page so the setup is simpler and I am still able to access hotmail. Hopefully that will help someone.

Overall, the Nintendo Browser is a good investment if you dont plan on buying the Iphone in the near future. For $40 there isnt much else out there that can give you what the Nintendo Browser offers.

Once

Once
Even those allergic to musicals may be won over by Once, a tender-hearted Irish romance with songs by Czech Republic-born Markéta Irglová and Frames frontman Glen Hansard. (The film's director, John Carney, actually used to play bass in the group.) The trick here is that Irglová and Hansard also play the leads; because their characters are shown busking, writing music, or rehearsing, the songs are smoothly integrated in the film. The overall acoustic mood won't surprise fans of the Frames--some tracks ("Say It to Me," "When Your Mind's Made Up") have even popped up on the band's albums, though the arrangements are more pared-down here, befitting the scruffy, street-musician setting. Being the lesser-known entity, Irglová feels like a revelation; she sounds a bit like a folkie Björk on "If You Want Me," and her song "The Hill" is downright heartbreaking. Irglová and Hansard had already made the 2006 album The Swell Seasontogether, so their collaboration here feels really organic--they sound particularly good together on the title track, for instance. Now that's the kind of magic you want from musicals. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

Customer Review: Once

Love it, love it, love it! The movie was great, the cd was great but seeing them live is even better! :)

Customer Review: I only need to say this "once"..........

I genuinely LOVE this soundtrack. Glen Hansard is incredibly talented. His style seems influenced by: (insert any great acoustic artist before him here). The song arrangement is also amazing. And Marketa Irglova's hauntingly soft voice is sweet and pure.

You can even use the remote to control Keynote presentations in iWork '06.

Customer Review: Used it to softmod my xbox

There are guides for connecting an xbox controller to the pc and using a usb stick to transfer files, but I couldn't get that to work. So, I ordered this, now that my xbox is (soft)modded, don't need it anymore, except maybe to mod other people's xbox's.

Four Keys to Finding a Red Hot Audience That'll Rush to Buy Your Books

Did you know that when you're looking for a hot topic to write about or a hungry market to go after, the best strategy for an independent publisher is to divide a large demand into manageable market niches.

A niche market is an easily identifiable market that can be targeted for direct promotion, i.e. golfers, model plane hobbyists, coin collectors, etc. If there is a gap in a market that is not being provided for by existing businesses in the industry you can fill it with your book or service. And you'll be less likely to face competition when you initially enter the market.

You might think the saying, "pick a niche and grow rich" is just some silly clich?. The truth is if you try to write to everyone, no one will read it. But when you laser focus on a specific topic and target market you can sell more to less people then selling less to more people.

Authors who offer specialized books, goods and services that are attractive to a specific group of prospective buyers in a niche market have a better profit potential than those who attempt to go after a broad market which is almost always fill of products and services promoted by large companies with even larger budgets.

Joe Garris, creator of Product Idea Profitability Evaluator (PIPE) Software suggests answering four basic questions before choosing a niche market.

1. Is the market easily defined and reachable?

a. Where do they hangout?

b. What publications do they read?

c. Do they have clubs or events that bring them together?

d. Are they looking for information online?

2. Is the market small enough that there are not many competitors but large enough to allow you to make a profit?

3. Will the market actually have and spend money?

a. Do they actually buy stuff?

4. Does the group have ridiculous amount of passion for the hobby or topic?

a. Do they eat and sleep the hobby?

Finding a niche requires balance. You don't want to speak to so many people that no one hears you. Nor do you want to get so specific that not enough people fill the target audience.

Identifying the right niche to target will be one of the top five things necessary for your success as a self published author. It will allow you to sell more of your books to less people for maximum profit.

A great magazine for finding a niche market and learning how to use target marketing to your advantage can be found by Googling ?Target Online.?

Are E-Books Worth The Effort?

One of the first things I notised after starting with interner marketing was the amount of FREE E-Books on offer.Being sceptical about free stuff I did not expect to learn a lot with this medium, but, being human I like to get free things.I was amazed at the incredible wealth of free information out there. What makes E-Books even more attractive is the fact that the info contained in the books are up to date "now" info. This differs from university textbooks which normally takes years to publish and when they hit the stands the info is 5 years old and outdated. In the fast paced internet industry one needs up to date usable info immediately.

My advice to newbies would be to get their hands on as many free E-Books as possible and read, read, read.

The best adcice I got thus far was start with something easy,Stone Evans wrote it somewhere.I started with Your Easy List http://get2site.com/u.asp?i=1366.It is free, but what is important is the process.

Thanks to all the experienced Marketers out there that provide us with this valuable asset.

Customer Review: Datsun 240Z, 260Z & 280Z 1970 thru 1978 Coupe & 2+2 146, 157 & 168 cu in (2.4, 2.6 & 2.8 liter) Automotive Repair Manual

This manual is very useful to the Z car owner who may have more than one car or a combination of early chassis and later engine, ignition, etc. The fact that there are three separate models included makes the manual somewhat harder to use, but overall it's well written and includes many illustrations and photos from the factory service manual. Occasional British terms are used which may be vague to some readers--a short list of translations into American language is included. Overall, this is a very handy tool for the Z car owner's collection.

Western Digital 500 GB My Book Studio Edition External Hard Drive

Western Digital 500 GB My Book Studio Edition External Hard Drive
Speed is what you need when for video editing, big design projects, or managing photo shoots and thats what this drive delivers with FireWire 800 and eSATA connectivity. With our automatic backup capability your creative masterpieces will be backed up the minute you save them.

Customer Review: Backup drive for use with Time Machine

I bought the My Book Studio Edition 500 GB drive specifically for use as a backup drive in conjunction upgrading my IMAC operating system. I installed Leopard and needed a dedicated drive for Time Machine. I've been using it for about a month and there have not been any malfunctions. In fact there have been no surprises. It takes up little room, is quiet enough (though not silent) and was no problem to install. I am completely satisfied.

Customer Review: Works Magic for the Mac

I am speaking about the My Studio 500GB for the Mac. In looking for a good external storage device for regular daily back-up I was guided to all sorts of products. But the My Studio was recommended the most and even was a highly recommended drive from the experts at Apple. The installation was easy (just connect and the software is loaded onto the computer automatically). Keep the software icon in the dock and you are all set. I travel a lot and I use the MacBook Pro (I still use Tiger OS X) and when I get home I simply attach the Firewire 800 (included in the box along with Firewire 400 and a USB cord) and the External Drive updates my backup within seconds. Yes, the initial back-up of the files took about 45 minutes, but then I had a lot of huge files and photos and music on my internal drive. But now, I leave the My Studio plugged into the power outlet and all I need to do is attach the firewire and the external drive turns on and backs up any changes within a minute. I can purge deleted files if I want, but I prefer to keep old files and the 500GB has the room. When I leave, I just quit the software and eject the My Book and it turns off all by itself (don't touch the on/off button; it is all automatic). I highly recommend this to Mac users. Don't get the WD 500GB for the PC even though it says it is good for Mac. You have to reformat the entire Drive and it does not work well with Mac. It costs a little more for the My Studio 500GB for Mac, but the ease of use is well worth it. Thanks Apple for the recommendation!

We had started out on this mission of information on collectible books with lots of optimism. And we have also ended it in the same manner.

Today's collectible books Article
Create Passive Income with Ebooks and Special Reports

Information products are a hot commodity in the online marketplace, transforming traditional entrepreneurs into infopreneurs. Ebooks and special reports are two of the most basic forms of info products. They are relatively easy to create and distribute and best of all, these products can generate passive income?money you make while you sleep.

An ebook is an electronic book that can be downloaded to a reader?s computer or hand-held device. Special reports are similar, but typically shorter in length. Some savvy internet marketers sell special reports ranging in size from two to twenty pages. Ebooks tend to be more comprehensive, with page counts from twenty to three hundred.

If you?ve been thinking about cashing in on this trend, then follow these simple steps to get started.

Establish Your Expertise

Everyone is an expert at something. Whether you are great at writing financial reports, organizing a home or training hamsters, you have something to offer the public. Sure there may be other people out there with similar qualifications, but that doesn?t mean that there isn?t room in the market for another expert. If you have a unique approach, you can compete with the best of them.

Building your expert status takes some effort. If you have special degrees in your field, a popular website, have published articles, been quoted by the media or given presentations on your topic, you are on the right track. If you don?t yet have these qualifications on your resume, start working on adding as many of these credibility-builders as possible.

Find Your Audience

You could write the most fascinating ebook on the planet, but your parents and friends will not be enough of an audience to make it worth your while. To be successful at selling ebooks and special reports, you must be able to reach a broad group of buyers. The best place to start is with a content-rich website.

For example, if you want to become an expert on dog training, your website should appeal to dog enthusiasts. To attract an audience, offer resources and articles that appeal to the dog-loving community. You can write your own articles or ask others to contribute content to your site. You can also locate articles available for reprint from sites like ezinearticles.com and ideamarketers.com. The key is to offer as much valuable information as possible. When your site visitors find value, they will be more interested in investing in the products you have for sale.

Communicating With Customers

One of the most effective ways to reach potential buyers is with an ezine. By sending a monthly or even weekly electronic newsletter, you accomplish several things at once: you get your name in front of your website visitors, you establish your credibility as someone who provides valuable information, and you can get your products in front of readers repeatedly. Studies show that the average consumer must be exposed to a product six to eight times before making a decision to buy. Your ezine can become a powerful tool for your information product business.

To capture subscribers to your ezine, provide a subscription link on every page of your website. You may want to offer a bonus, such as a complimentary special report or ebook, to entice visitors to sign up.

Create Your Products

Once your website is drawing traffic and your ezine is going out on a regular basis, you?re ready to create your first information product. First you must decide what topic to cover in your ebook or special report. Consider what information your site visitors want to know. Do you receive the same questions over and over? Answering those could be the basis of your first product. You could also survey your customer base to find out what interests them.

Once you know what your subject matter will be, then get to work on writing your first ebook or special report. It would be wise to have your content edited by either a friend or a professional so you can ensure you are delivering the best output possible. Don?t forget to include your website and contact information along with a copyright statement similar to the following:

Once your work is complete, you will want to convert it to a user-friendly format. Adobe PDF Creator software allows you to convert your document to PDF format which can be viewed on personal computers, Macintosh computers, and numerous handheld devices. You can also choose security settings to protect the contents of the document. If you don?t already own this software, you can visit www.adobe.com to convert up to five documents at no charge.

Automate the Sales Process

Once your finished product is ready to go, you will need to automate the sales process. You could add a link to your website and attempt to process payments and deliver your info products manually, but this will only leave you and your customers frustrated. One of the benefits of info products is the instant gratification. When a customer makes a purchase, he wants to access the product immediately instead of waiting for you to check your email and deliver the goods.

There are a variety of online merchant systems available and one such solution is offered by www.payloadz.com. This service manages the sales and delivery of electronic products. You can upload your file to Payloadz and create shopping cart buttons that can be placed on your website. When a customer makes a purchase, Payloadz will handle collecting the payment (which is processed via Paypal), and will send the buyer a link to download the product from their server. All you have to do is sit back and wait for the cash to hit your bank!

Market, Market, Market

Once your product is created and the sales and delivery process automated, your focus should be on marketing. Few businesses can be successful without marketing, and information products are no exception. Here are some ways to market online without breaking the bank:

*Publish articles in related industry publications and websites.

*Publish articles through content sites such as ezinearticles.com.

*Write a book. Being an author is an instant boost to your credibility and a book can open the doors to a variety of opportunities such as media appearances and speaking engagements.

*Form strategic alliances with website owners in your industry. Trade links to each other?s sites, swap ads in your ezines, or partner on a project or event.

*Be everywhere. Participate in teleconferences, internet radio interviews, blogs, and industry-related forums and chat rooms.

As your business grows, continue to evaluate what your customers want to know and develop products to meet those needs. Remember that it?s much easier to fill a need than to create one. And if you can do just two or three things each day to market your business, it shouldn?t be long before your website traffic and product sales exceed your wildest dreams.

Customer Review: Good speakers for price & size

I bought these for my bedroom. I use them with my Yamaha receiver & dvd/cd player. The sound is pretty good and they don't take up too much space in my small room.

Customer Review: Good Speakers

I really like these small speakers - at least smaller than the old ones I was using. They fit in the speaker stands I had, but take up so much less space than those monsters! And the sound is excellent.

A Pilates' Primer : The Millennium Edition

A Pilates' Primer : The Millennium Edition
This edition combines two of Joseph Pilates published works in one volume. Contrology is the complete coordination of mind, body and spirit, wrote Joseph Pilates. In Return to Life, first published in 1945, Pilates defines the concept of Contrology with specific advice regarding posture, body mechanics, correct breathing, spinal flexibility and physical education. He demonstrates his original 34 mat exercises, which are now basic repertoire in Pilates training. Each exercise is demonstrated by Pilates himself at the age of 60 in a series of photos accompanied by detailed instructions. Your Health, originally published in 1934, explains Joseph Pilates early theories about health and fitness. Its a fascinating look into the mind of the man who revolutionized fitness, and whose teachings form the foundation of a discipline now embraced by fitness enthusiasts, health educators, rehabilitation specialists, and exercise trainers around the world. Black and white, paperback, 158 pages.

Customer Review: Real Pilates course

I learned my first pilates mat on a specialized gym with a teacher, third in line with Joseph Pilates. Classes were really expensive and I started searching on internet for a video with the original excercises as the ones I learned. I did not have too much luck, until I saw this video and order it. It was the exact same routine that I was taught; so I left the gym and do them at home now. For any pilates course, you should always go to a licensed teacher first because if you don't you might damage your spine. There are certain positions which need help at the beginning and you can't do them on your own. After that, you can buy this DVD with confidence is really good. The purpose of the pilates workout is for flexibility, back problems and posture correction. They are excellent for herniated disk, I have two and after six months practicing pilates the pain was gone for good.

Customer Review: Lays it out for you. (Also, a PC alert in this review.)

I have the DVD "Classical Pilates Technique - The Complete Mat Workout Series", which I love. But some of the stuff wasn't totally clear to me, such as when you start breathing in some of the exercises, even though it was touched on--maybe it's just me. So I got this book. When the book is open to an exercise, each exercise has a set of four pictures on the left page and on the right page there are complete instructions. I think it is useful as it is another view of what you are trying to do, so in complements the video I have. If I could only have either the book or the video, I would pick the DVD, but the book is nice to have.

A warning: Pilates, in a reference to the fact that a lot of other fitness teachers at the time were sick or had physical problems, referred to that incongruity as follows: "This is the '[N-word] in the wood pile.'" He used quotes to indicate that it was an expression, which it was at the time. This is on page 113, which is the second book within the book, originally published in 1934. Pilates himself had excellent health and was sure his system would give people excellent health.
